Any chance to have the Vikings expansion added to "The Settlers II 10th Anniversary" in the future? I'm not even sure if it has ever been translated from German to English...

According to Wikipedia, it has been translated to Czech, Polish and Russian. No info about English version.

It would have to be translated which someone has apparently already done on the Ubisoft forums.

The second thing they would have to do is change the installer to install over the English version of the game.


Neither of these are impossible to do, the difficult part would probably be getting Ubi to agree to let someone else do it in any official capacity.

Without the Vikings expansion I will stay with my physical CD version, where I have both.

This was actually one of the few older titles I had little issue running on newer software/hardware from the retail installation, so unless we see the additions of the missing link (vikings add on) I'll be giving it a miss for now

I wonder why it never came out in English. Did the main game not sell well enough in those places to make it worthwhile or something?

It was me who did the English mission translations and the ingame warnings on the Vikings.
I bought the gog game just to see if the procedure would work, and it did!

If gog get the permission from ubi, they could use my translation. ofcourse some minor issues remain, like the german title screen and german audio track. but there are also advantages, ingame warnings for low resources and traffic jams, recruit soldiers here button to collect beer and weapons in a selected storehouse with just 1 button instead of having to go to all the storehouses and regulate the flow of beer and weapons. Standard no gold to military buildings, making for better control of the gold. And 12 new single player missions with a new quest system that allows for sub quests, so it's not only get to the portal but other stuff along the way. Probably some more stuff I forgot about, all in all it's kind of an update to the game engine and some missions, so it would be nice to get.

some of the issues mentioned got fixed in the ubi forums, I translated the updated editor with random map generator, and someone provided an English title screen.

If GOG added the Vikings expansion + translation in, that would be epic.

I don't know how to contact either GOG or UBI, or if it was already discussed between them, but as far as I'm concerned they can use my work if they wanted to. Some official statement would be nice here, even if they don't do it.

I'm sure a lot of people want the expansion, if only for the 12 extra missions. Would be good to have an 'official' protection free English release, I would spend a cpl of $ on it ;) even though I have the German one.

... and we may even see some new maps now the updated editor is finally translated too ...

So you mainly like the different buildings and characters :) that's cool too, they are indeed pretty detailed and pleasant.

would be nice if they just added it as an additional download. guess the prob is the updated exe's you get when installing the 11757update and vikings require the cd to be inserted to play. ofc there are ways around that but to make it official would require some work ...

GOG would be able to deal with that, all their games once required CDs :P thats the point, they all run without any DRM!
