Any news ragarding a patch? It feels a bit empty to play Settlers III without the beloved old music tracks...
you can still put the OST in your media player and shuffle the tracks like you want.
I was finally able to solve the music problem on my Windows 7 64bit Desktop PC. I could get Settlers 3 Gold to run easily, but had no music. With the music patch from Stein0r it worked, but only for one song and then stopped.
I tried compatibility modes and virtual machines, but nothing worked.

So I finally installed Windows XP 32 bit as a second OS on my computer and now have a dual boot system. It took some time, but was rather easy and the best thing is, Settler 3 Gold now perfectly runs on XP 32 bit WITH music, even without the patch. So it seems, its not the new hardware of my computer, that caused the music problems, but the OS, namely Windows 7 64bit. It also enables me to get other good old games to run!

Settler 3 Gold is such a great game, but loses so much fun and atmosphere without its soundtrack. And running it on wave files in the background is just not the same.

So if anyone wants to try, its really not that hard. There are easy step by step instructions on the web. Just look for Windows 7 and XP dual boot system. All you need is a legal copy of windows XP.

Maybe it helps some of you guys :)

It would be really nice to have an official patch for this problem. While using 3rd party patches might or might not work, even if they do it's always a little risky, and most of the time they aren't fully compatible with the gog versions of games anyways. And setting up dual-booting is -as beautiful the game is- in my opinion not worth it.
Didn't a member of the gog development team write they were looking into this about 6 months ago? What happened to that?
Actually, I'd be interested in know if anyone here owns The Settlers 7 Gold Edition... As far as I know, it came with the Settlers III.

If anyonw owns it, could they please tell us if the same problem is present there?
If it isn't, maybe we could work out a solution from there(just like with the Settlers Platinum Edition and some other problem a couple of years ago).
Sorry for posting in this inactive thread, but opening the Track02-14 .ogg files in VLC gave them the titles Audio Track 02-11 from album "Settlers 3 Gold CD1 (PL)" and Audio Track 04, 05 and 08 (12, 13 and 14 as their file names) from album "Settlers 3 Gold CD2 (PL)"

Interesting, as PL = Polish, and we've already had a post regarding the Polish version of the game.

dikajos: Thanks for idea with play list. I remember this bug was present also on my S3 version I once have on CD. I blamed polish language version for this.
So far only reloading game bring back the music (one track only...).
Another thing to note is how the content of the MUSIC folder does not match with the soundtrack download.

MUSIC.ogg - Soundtrack
Track 02 (CD1) - Track 01
Track 03 (CD1) - Track 02
Track 04 (CD1) - Track 08
Track 05 (CD1) - Track 09
Track 06 (CD1) - Track 04
Track 07 (CD1) - Track 05
Track 08 (CD1) - Missing!
Track 09 (CD1) - Missing!
Track 10 (CD1) - Missing!
Track 11 (CD1) - Missing!
Track 04 (CD2) - Track 03
Track 05 (CD2) - Track 07
Track 08 (CD2) - Track 06

No more .ogg files in the MUSIC folder, but three more files in the soundtrack.
Track 10-12, which sound like the same tribe, but I cannot tell which.

I don't know if any of this is significant, but they are observations I have made.
A quick thread revive.

Perhaps someone, in the time since the last post, has discovered a solution for this problem. I'm experiencing it right now and it takes away from the joyful experience of the original.

A soundtrack in the background is the current solution, however inelegant.
still no one?
You just have to scroll up a few posts. Check out the patch SlaxVice86 has posted and then make sure to take the extra step I've posted right after. It might work, it might not. It worked for me, it didn't work for him, but since no one else has seemingly reacted to my post, I can't really tell whether the fact that it worked for me was just an oddity or not.
Is this problem still being worked on? The link to the patch that was posted 2013 is no longer working.
I am running Windows 7, and have the same problem that the music stops playing after just one track.

I read all the earlier posts in this thread, but it would be nice to hear something from GoG as to the present situation.

I have been looking online for a mirror or something... But I haven't been able to find that patch again. It would be nice if someone who downloaded it back in the day uploaded it... Unfortunately, I don't think I've still have it.

As for GOG... Yeah, there are many things they could improve with Settlers III and IV(Settlers 6 had a game breaking problem, and they have release a patch for it, why not these two?)... Settlers III at least got a patch. Settlers IV has yet to see something like that(you can't even play it on some computers, depending on your setup...).

Here's a web archive link with the download still active for anyone who needs it. ;3

Thiev: We are looking into it right now.
Any news on this topic? (like: We are still working on it but the problem is bigger as we thought first.)
Thanks in advance!

I was looking for the main page all the time, it didn't cross my mind to look for THAT one specific page. XD

Thank you very much! I'll download and archive this fix.

Thanks for your effort. I had no luck using that patch though. I did all the steps SlaxVice86 did back in 2013, didn't work. Tried deleting winmm.dll as horkrux suggested, didn't help.
Well, I can only hope that the patch provided help to others at least :)
