I made a replacement sound file, but during trying it out, it was found to lack some sound depth, but it did fix the problem.

I have been working on other replacements files, but I haven't had much free time to do so.
So far I have created one other replacement file, which has the volume boosted and working on an other one as well (with gradual scaling per sample), but that one isn't completed yet.
When I am finished, they have to be tried out before I "release" them.

For the record, I am not a GOG dev, nor a dev of this game. Please keep that in mind before deciding to get angry with me.
thanks for the followup.

Thank you for the attention given to this issue and for trying to fix it. I'm also of those people who really loves the game but the damn "popping" sound drives me mad and has prevented me from playing the game.

I hope you and all your family manage to stay safe and healthy in these troubled times.

Thanks once more .

this is awesome, it works great! thanks!
Thank you for your dedication on fixing this issue.

EDIT:
Just tried the fix. It works perfectly!
Sad that it needs so many tweaking. Folks who didn't grow with old DOS may have some trouble activating the fix.

It really sounds great, indeed, and the annoying glitch is fixed. If any of you notice the sound too low for your tastes, the above MIXER SB 200:200 line can solve it. To me it works better in that way.

Greetings and Great Job!

well, it is a one time procedure.
It would be easier to do only the changed file, but it's copyrighted and thus this is the next best thing I could do.

(and I couldn't get it attached to the forum, so hence I had to rely on an external site..)

The most important thing is that it works.
Again, thanks for your patience and your great help in this issue.
Tyvm very much. It worked in game and I finished the game today.

I did however experience weird sound cutouts and such during the intro and final cutscene.

Unsure if I'm the only one.

But 99% of the game works, so that's very fine.

you're not the only one. the samples played in the intro and ending aren't stored in the bsamples.cat file so they haven't been fixed yet.

Do you happen to know where they are stored in ? As I still know the (cat) sound file format. If it is in a similar I might be able to do those as well.

unfortunately i have no idea. i assumed they'd be in asamples.cat but apparently not.

I took a look at it as well. The sound is probably part of the movie itself.

For me there aren't really pops, but more like the entire sound stops for half a second. (well technically, the sounddata that is being played is all zero, so it seems like some buffer is not being updated).

Do you have similar gaps in sound (in the intro movie) or are it just pops ?

The sound popping fix has been moved to:

No news on the 2 movies.
