Rufert: Inxile reply:
We don't. They received the patch at the same time last night and we pinged them on it. They traditionally do the set-up on their end, so hopefully so on.

Mawthra: And that's the frustrating part... the patch is done, and had GOG put them on the new build system that several of the devs here are on, Galaxy users would've been rocking that update right now... feels a lot like when a package you're waiting on gets stuck at the FedEx hub on a Friday and you just... wait
avatar
Hickory: Precisely.
avatar
Mawthra: And in this case, no one knows if inXile knows about the new build system or not... if they don't, then it's up to GOG to get them onboarded and there'd be nothing they can do to get it done... Can't push an update to a system they don't even know exists... from the sound of inXile's response on Twitter, doesn't sound like they know about it
If inXile knows absolutely nothing about the platform they're using to distribute the game, that's not GOG's fault. The only possible way this could be GOG's fault is if they don't ALLOW inXile to use the system for some reason. Otherwise, inXile is just being lazy and not bothering to properly support this platform. I wish they would have disclosed their intention to ignore GOG before I chose to get it here.

From the Dev on my twitter.

Rufert: @Inxile_Ent Got an ETA for the patch on GoG?

Inxile reply:

Could you ask them specifically why they aren't using Galaxy to patch without relying on GOG staff?

bard's Tale Trilogy Remastered got the patches nearly the same time as Steam, except for the beta patches GoG didn't get the beta patches. And Bard's Tale Trilogy is an Inxile game. So if this system you are talking about exists, then that suggests that either Inxile decided not to use what they already had to patch BT4, or GoG are the ones that actually do push the patches out to Galaxy as soon as they get them but only during business hours, and it is the weekend now, which means it is not an automated system at all.

Good point about the Trilogy, didn't think about that one... But it definitely is an automated system that involves no work on GOG's part at all, because the A Hat in Time developer pushed 4 updates during the first weekend he was on the new build system (which he wrote about on the game's forum page here)... he even wrote about the fact that he couldn't update the patch notes himself yet because that wasn't an option... so the game wound up getting updated to the 4th update for the backup installers on the following Monday which is when it also got the patch notes

With as many updates as this game is going to be getting (according to their roadmap on Steam), it's a shame they're not pushing out updates as they happen on Galaxy

waltc: Not trying to begin a silly argument--but the way I describe this is the way I've seen it work month after month and for several recent game releases on Galaxy. I think BT4 is AAA material, no question--what a fantastic buy! But this is in inXile's fault 100% it appears to me--not only have they not even tried to patch the game using Galaxy distribution--they have made no comment on the matter whatsoever in these forums! It's as if we don't exist and they have never sold the game through GOG. Again, your explanation would suffice for manual patching in the old days, but Galaxy has officially changed all of that at GOG, obviously.
There's also a thread on inXile's forums asking why The Bard's Tale never got the Remastered and Resnarkled update like Steam did... still no answer as to why it hasn't happened yet

Hickory: GOG is not Steam. Steam is the largest digital distribution service in the world, started in, what, 2002? GOG is a small company and GOG Galaxy is still in its infancy. It's no wonder publishers prefer Steam. Don't blame GOG.
I couldn't agree more...for me, I can't stand Steam and use it only when there's no other option.
Waiting the patch.... to continue game progress... because a glitch on Puzzle doors...

Oh, for sure I do. Because the problem is known for years and it's a problem for like every f'ing new game on GOG. You would think they value their customers a bit more then just ignoring the fact that threads like this are all over the forums on I don't know how many many games ...

What new build system? I never heard anything about it and I didn't see any changed way of distributing patches than the way I'm used to here on GOG. Do you have a link to this information?

There’s no official announcement I’ve seen, but read a recent dev post here that confirms it exists:

Thank you very much. These are good news indeed. Was about time they do something about the situation. :)
FYI, made a Code Wheel if anyone wants to use it... Whipped it up quick and dirty... does the job. Windows only right now. Link:

Good news is... incoming patch after GOG hours! (thank you inXile for getting on the build system)... bad news... it's another 25GB download (doesn't bother me, I'm on an unlimited, fast connection, but I feel for the folks on slow and/or limited connections)

*** For comparison sake, the patch on Steam was 223MB to get to the same patch level ***

"Hotfix 3.1" Patch Notes from Steam below:

=============================================
Hello everyone,

We have just released a hotfix to solve the following issues:

German - Fixed the issue where cogs were unintentional stacking as a single type versus three different types. The tool tips isn’t localized at the moment, however, all new German players will not be blocked. For German players with previous save games, please adventure to Boar Temple and Skyhenge to find additional cogs waiting for you so you can progress your adventures.
Fixed players having a small chances to suffer odd behaviors, including crashes, when using a practitioner’s dragon breath & conjurorer’s mark on groups of skeleton enemies.
Fixed an issue with fairy powder bomb would cause hangs with multiple wave combats
Fixed an issue with the Zanta fight in regards to killing multiple skeletons in the first turn of combat.
Fixed a crash during combat when stacks of ‘On Fire’ are damaging Yadis and Primeval are also on the grid

In addition to the fixes, enemy difficulty on hard mode was increased to +60% enemy difficulty over normal mode, up from +40%.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please keep letting us know if you are still having any issues with The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep.

The team at inXile

Hey, today's update size was about 170 MB for me on GoG. It just took about 5 minutes to "install" / "update" on my SSD after the download.

25 GB size sounds like you did not have the update 3 from October 12...

I absolutely was on Parch 3 before it updated to Hotfix 3.1.... Galaxy just started auto updating it and showed it as downloading ~25GB... I was one of the people asking inXile to please update the game in a timely fashion, as soon as a patch hits, I update

Same here!

Maybe they improved things at a later time!

I have another machine it's installed on through Galaxy that I haven't turned on yet... be interesting to see what that one does... download the small patch or the 24-25GB... that one was on Patch 3 as well... I'll report back once I turn on that machine today.
