Eh, I tried AVG a while back and hated it.
The new version does not conflict with my Malwarebytes installation, and adding the game directory to AVG's ignore list and Microsoft Security Wotsit's ignore list preemptively prevented any problems whatsoever.

edit: Apparently my brain isn't thinking so well today. I meant to say Malwarebytes doesn't seem to recognize the new version as a virus, so either someone reported it to them and they removed it from their database or the new version just doesn't have any problems with it. I suspect the latter.

Also having this. and MCafee won't let me add it to the trusted items list. IT won't even show TOEE.exe in the quarantine list anymore so I have to reinstall it each time AND THEN even with live scanning disabled it automatically removes the file after about 20 seconds everytime I start up the game.
Same issue

Evidentally the ability to add files & folders to the exclusion list was removed a while ago.

It may be worthwhile posting the detection details in the Artemis forum.
apparently it's just the exe itself that is broken.

Apparently the exe file can't be detected by the installer or something.
It's more than an anti-virus thing.

Nope. The reason the installer can't find the exe is that your antivirus program is blocking it. If you shut off your real-time/active protection, you'll be able to install the game just fine. But as soon as you turn your protection back on, if you're using Norton it'll delete the file. There are a couple other antiviruses that automatically delete it too, I think. And no, they don't ask you whether or not you want to.
I own Windows 7. Between that and most antiviruses, I am bothered more than a little by the growing trend that assumes we, the end-users, are exclusively computer-illiterate idiots that should never under ANY circumstances be allowed to touch background mechanisms of our computer's function. I appreciate the attempt at added 'protection', but giving more control to those that wish it shouldn't hurt much.
I don't run anti-virus programs on any of my computers for a lot of reasons, but as it has been stated, Microsoft and other companies have to shoot for the lowest common denominator and so idiot-proof their design.

Just bought this to have the convenience of digital download, but when I install it I get a "Code 2" and the message stating that it couldn't create the Toee.exe file. This is probably because the latest updates to XP and 7 are not allowing any programs to install a list of certain .exe's and such.

All of this has been stated already on these boards, but how do I fix the issue?
I'm wondering... what happens if you rename the toee.exe? Just something like toee2.exe. That could help if the removal is name-related only. (The heuristics are more difficult to take care of... maybe toning the live-scan down to "ask me what to do" instead of "delete immediately" could already help.)
Try this:

If you have anti-virus programs, turn off their active scanning when installing.

If you do not have AV programs and you get a "Code 2" error when installing: if you have Windows XP open the Windows Security Center (either in the control panel, or click the little icon in your toolbar at the bottom of your desktop) and under "Virus Protection" click the "Recommendations" button, then check the "I have an anti-virus program...", then click OK. Close the center and install the game. After installation (you shouldn't have gotten any errors), go to C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil (or wherever you installed it) and find ToEE3.exe and create a shortcut on your desktop that points to that .exe. Double click your new shortcut and enjoy.

This worked for me on my XP machine, haven't tried it on my Windows 7 machine, but the settings should be similar. If this does not work for you HAHA. Just kidding, if it doesn't work then keep trying. I'll update if I find anything else out.
((Twitches and twiddles thumbs in rabid anticipation)) Can't wait for GoG to fix this issue so i can finally enjoy this game.
Totally Agree

After the installation is complete you should be able to the you AV to leave the file or entire folder alone, I had to do this with Trend Micro...

Norton doesn't listen.
