Elwin: How about someone posts those two files for people to update with? Sounds like a win-win.

mastalouist: Alright, since there is a lot of conflicting and/or misleading information flying around in here, let me try to clear some of it up.

First, as someone stated earlier, it does indeed seem that this GOG version of ToEE includes Atari Patch 1 & 2.
What are you basing your information on exactly? Earlier, I installed the GOG version and also took the md5 hashes of the Atari patch 2 and 3 files. You can clearly see for yourself that GOG's version has the Atari Patch 3 DLLs by their matching md5 - except for temple.dll which is from moebius2778's unofficial patch that I mentioned.

MD5s:

I'm probably arguing about trivialities at this point, but why say it's something when it isn't? Also, I installed Atari patch 2 over the GOG version and it also runs just fine with the Co8 modpack - or don't install Atari patch 2: other people are saying that also works, but again you *are* then running with Atari patch 3 tio.dll and pyToEE22.dll files - which maybe the Co8 temple.dll will have no problem with or maybe it will. It doesn't seem to be for people, but I'm genuinely curious then why they warn against Atari patch 3, or if it's just to be on the safe side.

SOLVED! :http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?p=101692&posted=1#post101692
Please ignore this post. I leave it in for anyone else who might encounter this problem! The issue was Vista 64 ultimate as the path has to be different in the registry to work than shown.

>>
I tried this but it did not work :-( Still cant find it, screen attached.

There actually IS a fix for the 'game not found' message. I did some searching on the 'net, and came across some info, related to a missing registry key causing the issue. Warning - Applying patch 2 will require a no-cd, as it reinstates the CD check.

The trick, is that the electronic version is not putting the correct Uninstall key in the registry, so when the patch attempts to locate the program through this entry, it is unable to find it.

Warning - Before editing the registry, please be certain to make a backup.. I take no responsibility for any issue making this change, may cause.

To create it:
Click on Start-> Run
Type regedit, and hit <Enter>

Expand HKEY_LOCAL_Machine

Locate & Expand Software
Locate & Expand Microsoft
Locate & Expand Windows
Locate & Expand CurrentVersion
Locate Uninstall

Right-click in the left-hand list on Uninstall, select "Create New Key"

Rename it to:

{AD80F06B-0F21-4EEE-934D-BEF0D21E6383}

Select the new key

In the right-nand window, add a couple new string entries

"InstallLocation"=<Full install path to TOEE, does NOT include the physical EXE file),
For example C:\Program Files\GOG.Com\Temple Of Evil

"InstallLanguage"="9"

Now, when you attempt to run the patch, it will find and patch the GOG version. You will see a warning about being unable to update the readme.txt (or at least I did), however everything else appears to go ok.

I think something is wrong with my .Net install and I can not uninstall it or repair it. Guess I am giving up on this. *sigh*
I had a bit of trouble getting ToEE to work with the Co8 pack - when I ran it, it would go full-screen for a second, then minimise and refuse to go back to full-screen, no matter how I might click.

It seems to be working now - what I think fixed it (although I may be wrong!) was setting both the TFE-X executable and ToEE.exe to "Run as Admin".

666: I am trying to run the TFE-X Application as admin but I get an error saying I must run it from the root folder. I stuck the circle of 8 folder in the TOEE main folder already....
I had the same issue and found a resolution.

I renamed ToEE3.exe to ToEE.exe and reran TFE-X.exe. Installation worked like a charm.
Uhm. I just installed the mod: (extract to game folder, run TFE-X.exe as admin, wait patiently until it's done, exit and restart TFE-X.exe as admin, activate the Co8 mod, wait patiently (it'll seem to hang}, exit and restart TFE-X.exe, select the Co8 mod and play! (not sure if those exits+restarts make any difference)) and everything works like a charm. Nothing more to it. To give some counterbalance to all these people having troubles, I had no trouble installing the Co8 mod

True, it does take a while to perform the installation, but some people (myself included) could not get the mod installtion to work as it said it had to be located in the root folder.

For me, renaming ToEE3.exe to ToEE.exe fixed the problem. It almost seems like the mod is looking for the wrong file. On your clean installation was there a ToEE3.exe AND ToEE.exe? On mine, there was no ToEE3.exe.

This actually sounds like the firefox-related issue some games (especially older?) have. Try closing any/all firefox windows before launching the game and see if that fixes the issue.

antihero_: What are you basing your information on exactly?
Honestly, I'm going by what Info I can find on the Co8 forums, and what I can glean from the posts here. I originally checked this thread, but some people said install this, others said install that. It was more confusing than anything else, so I went, instead to the Co8 forums.

Co8 says, repeatably, that they pack requires Atari patches 1 & 2, but that patch 3 will break a number of processes within the mod. Alright, sounds simple enough, but after some fiddling around, I found you could install the Co8 pack directly on top of the GOG version without patching, which suggests, heavily, to me that the GOG version contains (at a minimum) patch 1 and 2. At this point I've played through about 4 hours without any issues, so the Co8 pack seems to be issue free.

Now, about patch 3. At best, it's a moot issue. You say that the GOG version already has it included, and I've got no reason to argue with you there. It's certainly possible that any modifications GOG made to the .exe have countered any compatibility issues Co8 had between itself, retail and patch 3.

But if that's the case, why bother installing patch 3? It's an unnecessary step, and one that *may* cause harm. All risk, no reward. So yes, I may be erring on the side of caution. But I'm also simply being pragmatic; the game works without patching, so I don't patch it.

I'm running TOEE/CO8 in both CXG and WIndows and while C08 itself seems to active and play, I am having problems with TFE-X.

In CXG, TFE-X's menu bar fails to render, which seems to be some kind of GDI+ problem, but the menus do drop down if you click in the menu area.

On both sides, some of the options set by TFE-X aren't working quite right. Most notably, changing the party size doesn't work correctly, so far as I can tell. When I increase the PC limit, the NPC limit is lowered (I can hire fewer NPC party members) but there are no additional PC party member slots available during party creation. I also can't seem to restore save backups generated by TFE-X in CXG to TFE-X in Windows.

:(

Maybe I'll try a clean install w/patch 2 and the GOG supplied .exe and see if it works better...

EDIT: OK--figured out that the additional slots are invisible but available at creation. I'll keep an eye on things to see if the additional settings appear to be working (like the max HP etc.)

I installed the gog version of TOEE.

I then installed the co8 mod.

(I did not install any patches or modify anything)

I am through hommlet, allot of the other town and am knee deep inside the temple dungeons. Perhaps 12+ hours in

0 problems.

win 7 64 bit.
Which version of the mod is the best one to be running with our version? I would like to install it but there are so many, I don't know which one to get.

I was thinking of getting one of the ones with the new content included, but don't want it at the cost of any stability, i.e. I'm kind of wary of the betas.

Any advice?

Get the newest version of the mod. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the idea of playing with new content on my first run through (a pure experience and all that), but really it's just up to your personal preference.

I usually go and get all the mods before playing because I like to just do a game once and get all the content....
But I think with all this technical will it work or will it not debates for this mod...

new players should play threw once with one alignment wtihout the mod. then tryto get the mod to work and do the 2nd run on a different alignment with the mod.

Anyway that is what I am gonna do and ill try to report back on how it goes for me.

GOG ROCKS!
Got this working. I didn't install patch 2 over it but so far so good. Thanks everyone for all the tips here.
I installed Temple of Elemental Evil, then the latest version of the COE modpack, 5.9.3, and while I have been able to get the game to successfully load, it seems to crash on the New Game/Load Game/Options screen.

It begins to load the background intro graphics, hangs, then never unfreezes. Not sure what's going on, anyone have any tips?

I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit.

e2: Crap, thought I figured it out, still crashed. :( what gives?
