It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Disabling my AV worked for me too! (Webroot)

HTWingNut: Thanks for trying to help. I did edit ini files, setting different resolutions and setting window mode on or off (assuming "StartupFullscreen" is the value to set to false?)

Edit: I tried on my laptop with i7-5500U, GT 940m, and Intel integrated GPU, with Windows 8.1 and still same issue.

floccipocci: Did you try installing using the installer downloaded from GOG website? Instead of using Galaxy.

This may sound far fetched but I found that there are errors in the game which is installed from Galaxy. I had to use the downloaded EXE installer and then the game works.

Might be something wrong with the install settings or registry or game path when using Galaxy to install. Theres another thread where we had a problem where the sounds are missing and a critical game function not working. Like the game is using the wrong engine or files.
Yes I discovered the missing sounds with the Galaxy version as well. I uninstalled the Galaxy version and reinstalled with the manual launcher from GOG.com. So far the sound is now working correctly.
so I discovered something here

if GOG is installed and let the installer install wherever default is then I noticed game crashing at startup

if GOG is not installed and installed at default I have my whole PC crash completely

if Game is installed with no gog but in a custom folder in HDD I have no issues what so ever.

this is what I learned so far

Make a custom folder called Games and install it there so far I tried this on a laptop and my main desktop with 3 screens and it worked.
I'm giving up at this point. I have tried everything. EVERYTHING. Clean install of Windows even and it still won't load... Same on desktop and laptop. I was so excited for this game. I don't understand at all why it won't run and have spent hours of my time, probably more time than I would have played the damn game.

Edit this ini file:

.\System\SwatGUIState.ini

From

bViewingGameSpy=true

to

bViewingGameSpy=false

that should work.

Reporting back.

For me the culprit indeed turned out to be the previously mentioned Bitdefender. First time it has caused problems with a game I've tried. After adding 'Swat4.exe' to the exceptions list, the game finally fired up and I was able to play a few missions without any serious issues.

The expansion seems to run just fine without meddling with Bitdefender, although occasionally, the game refuses to play any sounds. Thus far a restart has worked to remedy that.
You guy should try this: www.gog.com/forum/swat_series/swat_4_multiplayer_patch

because the game is trying to communicating with a dead host, therefore freezes.

Probably by tomorrow the CD Key patch will be implemented in shipping Engine.dll.

However, since you are using the follow installation path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\SWAT 4\

You can also try the auto patch script that I made available. It already fixes CD Key issues.

Imo, add those 3 lines in your Hosts files is still the best option; and you don't need to touch in game files.

Alternatively,

try this file for \Swat 4\ContentExpansion\System\

cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/232125513412378626/274332601240518656/Engine.dll

and this one to \Swat 4\Content\System\

cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/232125513412378626/274333084516876288/Engine.dll

Don't forget of make a safety copy of your original files before!

There is no "SwatGUIConfig.ini" file

OK. It seems it is a combination of things. If I exit BitDefender after my system has loaded up, I can't launch game. If I exit it as soon as Windows starts, the game launches fine.

Also, I had to uninstall Virtual Audio Cable. Seems that was causing it fits too. This is on laptop only. Will give it a shot on desktop as well.

OK, whew. It seems it was BitDefender all along. Even by closing it through icon, it still had a service running in background. Uninstalled it completely and now SWAT 4 seems to work without issue. Sheesh. I installed Avira Free Anti-Virus and so far so good.
I had a feeling that it might be something to do with one of these issues:

1) SWAT 4 is trying to contact an ad server. So adblocks and AV might have issues with this.
2) SWAT 4 is trying to verify cd key to a server which no longer exists.
3) Trying to contact gamespy servers which no longer exist.
4) Multiple monitors / new exotic resolutions or aspect raio.
5) Install paths.
6) Galaxy install vs Manual Instaler

Venita: Try deleting the Swat4 ini file (it's in the same folder as the exe) and tell me if that helps.
This WORKED! Thankyou.
Solution for those with BitDefender (at least that did the trick for me without uninstalling):

1) Open the UI.
2) Click "Modules"
3) Under the "Shield" tab, disable both the scan and Active Control Threat for 5 minutes each
4) Launch the game, which should work now.
You can also add the Swat4.exe to Bitdefender's antivirus exclusions list. Should work as well (Modules > Antivirus > Exclusion > Excluded processes).

Interestingly enough, I didn't notice any network connections with normal Swat 4 whereas the expansion does indeed make a connection towards the Massive ad-servers. Yet, the expansion starts up without problems and without any meddling at all just fine.

That worked for me, thanks. I only had Swat4.exe as an excluded file, not process.
