CatholicFan posted earlier about this saying:

Note, if the Compatibility mode box is greyed out, select the button near the bottom of the window that says, "Change settings for all users" in order to select which version of Windows you want.

Is this a Win8 thing? See if that works for you.

Ah, there it is, thanks.
Getting a little frustrated now. I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread, and the controller still isn't working.

EDIT: The "default" trick seemed to work when I enabled compatibility mode for Win98/Me for the game exe, then clicking default in the joystick options. Must have misinterpreted the instructions.

Protagonist187: HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE![

Right click on the shortcut and disable compatibility functions. It's messing with the GOG installed settings or something.
Start the game.

If you're having issues with defining the joysticks buttons (just giving you 1 button) just click on the default button whilst on the joystick option panel, it's on the options on the right hand side. It will define all the controls for you and will work in game.

Now all the menus will work fine, no slow down, and the 360 controller should work fine.
THIS WORKED. THANKS!

This worked perfectly for me with my wired 360 controller. Thanks!
Ah, you youngins. Think that a standard 'gamepad' would work with this. Ho, ho, ho.

I'm sittin here with my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and had a ball of the first mission.

I'm using a Sony DualShock 4, which emulates an Xbox 360 controller. I got my game to work by setting both EXE's for Win98 compatibility. From there, I just had to go into the game and press "DEFAULTS" for joystick and it mapped everything automatically.

Only the menus move very slowly.

I'm thinking of trying this. I use a DualShock 3 with SCP which didn't work at all with the game. It appeared to be mapped by unchecking the compatibility settings and selecting "Default" under the Joystick options, the same method almost everyone else uses for 360 controllers. Keyboard worked fine, but the game didn't respond to any input on my controller.

I noticed that if you move the mouse when the menu animations take place they move much faster.
Well, I don't know if anyone here have tried this, but this tip here worked on me, once that "compatibility tip" didn't work: All what I did was typing "regedit", and then I looked for this:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Rogue Squadron\v1.0"

After this, I opened the "JoystickID" key and typed "0" once there was "1". It disabled the problem with automatic mapping on the Joystick Option. I'm using an Sega Saturn USB joystick here and I've configured very well. Now I can play the game with no problems...

This did it for me, thank you!
Strangely enough now there does not seem to be a .exe file in the game files. Where to find it?
