Every time I start the game it tries "Setting Up Profile."
Then I get the attached authentication failed message.

I don't understand. What account can it be looking for?
It doesn't even know who I am.

This is version 436.
Maybe this is why offline files only offers 424 now.

Oh, and then it compiles shaders again but from the middle of the process.

Sad thing is it took me many hours to download.

I believe it is searching for your online profile. Might have to do with when they release multiplayer or to do with the Galaxy version for achievements and such. You should be able to just hit escape and keep playing. The shader compilation is going on in the background while it's looking for your online profile. That's why after you close that window some of the compilation has finished.

That makes sense but I would hope there is a way to stop it from looking for a non-existent account.
Especially since I will not play multiplayer.

Do others have this account it's looking for?

I submitted a ticket. It might just be me because nobody else mentioned it.

Same happens to me.
I wonder if it could be related to having the Ultimate Edition? (do you also have the UE?)

Yes! I do.
I will now try re-installing without the ultimate package exe.

You say you have version 436?
Where do you see that?
I could find the version info only when i open Galaxy and look at the version selector when "configuring the installation", and i only have the 424 option there (same as the manual downloads have).

Funny you should ask. It appears nowhere in the game that I could find.
It is part of the filename in the 40 files I downloaded last night and overnight while I slept before they changed the version back to 424 today.

I tried uninstalling just the ultimate package and there was no change. I will now try a fresh install of just the base game.

Aha. Somebody else made a topic about that in the meantime - apparently there was a 436 version in the manual downloads, but it has been reverted to 424 - https://www.gog.com/forum/stalker_series/stalker_2_424
So you may have something "unique" :)
I still have the 436 offline installer files but now I'm afraid to reinstall it cause my game crashed and when I tried to start it again it would not load. Come to find out it's frikkin gone. All that was left was the app data folder. The rest went poof. So poof that neither the crash error nor the deletion of the files shows up in my event viewer...
I tried a fresh install of only the base game, version 436, and it is still trying to set up a profile and access a non-existent account. It's so strange that you can't set up this profile within the game options.

Now that I see that 424 has problems I'm not about to re-download at this time. I have a pitifully slow internet connection.

I guess I'm lucky my version 436 didn't uninstall itself! :)
Would be nice if GSC or CDPR would give us something in the way of why all this is going on. Why did the game get reverted. Why is the game uninstalling itself. Why didn't Rose let Jack onto the flotsam...
I thought it was because it's the gog version and this was a form of DRM that wasn't allowed.

So 436 had DRM is what you are saying? I hope that's not it. Comparing the 2 versions 436 runs way better than 424 did.

please save it for posterity. there might be useful stuff for modders in there (like function names, or debug symbols)..
(edited twice)

Disregard. I thought I had a solution but there is something in this game that wants the save game files in a GOG Galaxy related folder.
I tried moving the save files and the game moved them back.

If you remove the Galaxy dll file you will lose access to your saves.

Maybe they will fix it.
