The original version is very much needed. At least the dos version, that could easly put in DOSBox with no effort. One I can set to use pc speaker if I want to. Amiga's would be good too but it would need more work to be done. While remakes are welcome we cannot lose the origins.

I would like to see a pack of Bitmap Brothes game available in their original format.

Too bad that the DOS version (at least in what I've seen of it so far) has awful and missing sound effects compared to the Amiga one... The sound effects were a very important part of the original game, it gave a lot of crowd atmosphere to it...

I'm still wondering why there aren't any Amiga games re-released the same way that DOS or ScummVM titles are. This may be because of the roms/kickstarts that are not freely distributable, but it would be so good to see this happening some day, it would be a vast improvement for most of the games released here as their inferior DOS version.

Anyway, this HD remake doesn't look so bad, but it misses one important thing for me, the Bitmap Brothers art style...

Amiga games ARE being re-released. Amiga Games Inc. have a few hundred licensed games and are releasing them on smartphones and consoles. Nothing on PC yet, though! But I think that that would be an excellent opportunity for GOG to make something happen! :)

I want to clariry my statement. I played the dos version back then, and probably still own a floppy disk somewhere (but I doubt it still works). So the dos version hold a special meaning for me. But I'm well aware that this games are better played on an amiga that unfortunately I didn't own at that time. The reason I said "at least the dos version" was because that's the version that need the less effort in making it work because dosbox can do all that it is needed by old dos games. Amiga or DOS release I still think they should be preserved and played the way they used to be. Done that, a remake or something on the line is welcome.

There is actually a place that converts Amiga classics into easy-to-use Windows executables that work on modern operating systems and allow you to easily customise a good deal about them, including resolutions, screen filters, controller support, save states, etc. using the UAE emulator, all for free. They actually have Speedball 1 and 2 converted into a single executable. But I'm not sure I should say any more or link them because I'm not sure how legal it is, especially when they've also done many other GOG titles that were on the Amiga (Cannon Fodder, Syndicate, Populous, etc.). They've even been getting some of the CD32 titles done recently, incorporating their CD soundtracks.

With news of Microsoft recently working out some deal to get a bunch of Amiga classics released for Windows and tablets, Windows phones, etc. I imagine they might not last that much longer if MS has anything to say about it anyway.

It's most likely not legal since the UAE emulator needs a kickstart rom to work, and those come with a fee. However, I can highly recommend Cloantos Amiga Forever package which also relies on UAE but makes it almost as easy to run old Amiga games as you describe it. Cloanto has licensed the Amiga Kickstarts so it's perfectly legal. The package comes bundled with some games but there's lots more to download from various sites (of course I'm only talking about legally free games. I doubt however that Bitmap Brother's games have been released as freeware so you would need to actually own the games. But other companies like Cinemaware and Team 17 have released some or all of their Amiga games for free. So, if you want the pure Amiga experience without actually buying an Amiga I think Cloanto's Amiga Forever is the way to go.

As for the MIcrosoft comment, it won't be them suing anybody, it will be the license holder Amiga Games Inc. which I mentioned in my earlier post. I think Amiga Games Inc has the rights to around 500 games at the moment and they seem determined to get them out on as many platforms as possible.

I totally understand that. When it comes to nostalgia with good old games, it's always the version you played that matters. And this is exactly why I honestly can't buy here DOS versions of games I played on Amiga during my childhood, even those which were crushed by their VGA DOS counterparts. I was super excited when I saw Team17 titles coming to GOG, especially because they were a major Amiga studio at that time, but was quickly disappointed to see that it were only DOS versions.
Let's hope that in a not too distant future we will be able to download DOS and Amiga versions of such titles.

Back to topic, it would indeed be good to be able to have the original versions of good old games, even if we have to buy the remake for that, which seems only fair.

I love the old Speedball 2 but hate any and all other sports games, so i probably will not like this remake either, but am likely to buy it anyway!

As for Amiga emulators, Bah humbug! Throughout the years, every so often i have wasted my time trying to get some new Amiga emulator i found to work, but they never do. The simple reason is that the people who made the emulator are absolutely incapable of providing thorough instructions on its installation.... I don't know, perhaps they assume everyone using their emulator will be a computer expert who can fill in all the blanks? But obviously if steps in the process are missing or excessively vague, then its of no use to the average computer user like myself.

I agree Amiga emulators have been among the more difficult to install and manage. One reason for this is that there's a lot of different versions of the Amiga that needs to be catered for. That's why I suggested Cloanto's Amiga forever package. It makes it very easy to just go straight into gaming with as little fuzz as possible. It's not perfect but it's easy enough to use for even an average computer user, I think! :)

WinUAE is very easy to use. Far easier than DosBox and similar, I find.

I don't agree. Sure, Dosbox require som Dos knowledge but the scope of WinUAE makes it far more complicated. With that said those two emulators are both in the "complicated" category of emulators...
