Simcity 4 has multiple problems with running on newer machines. Stability issues, not supporting modern GPUs, running in software mode, low framerate etc.

I know of various fixes and workarounds presented on Simtropolis forums, but they never allowed me to run the game in real hardware mode, which resulted in low framerates for larger cities.

Now, has GoG team done something about that or is it the same Simcity 4 EA still keeps on selling?

I have no problems with running the GOG version on Win 7 64bit.
I wouldn't know specifics, but I think you're guaranteed GOG made sure the game runs on all their test machines. (which I believe is about 30-50 different configs of hardware/software) And of course, money-back guarantee if Support can't get the game to run.

Oh I know the game would "run" and be playable. But it would still run worse than on the PC I had 10 years ago. And my questions is if that has been fixed somehow. Judging by other posts it seems that the only thing that has been fixed was adding modern GPUs to the supported GPUs list, which will make the game recognize it, but won't really improve the performance
I think that all people will be able to tell you is how it runs on their machines, rather than speculate on how it might run on yours.

Runs fine here.
Yes, it appears that GOG have done additional work to get this running on modern PCs. Check out one of GOG's staff posting about it here...If you do happen to have any issues with blinking graphics etc, his post also suggests a few things to try.

What I wrote there shouldn't be necessary for GOG.com build. Those changes are already applied.

Ah, my mistake, Theiv. I actually did quote the wrong post of yours there. I was thinking, based on your wording below, that you had made additional compatibility changes for the GOG build...

What GPU do you have? That issue is caused by game mistaking some cards for older unsupported ones. I thought I fixed it for AMD though...

There was a handful of bugs still lingering in this game that I hope they fixed.

Many have been fixed with mods, and I'd hope at least these would be included. There was stuff like the opera house actually hurting your city instead of helping, and I remember a mod that fixed the terribly slow and ineffective path-finding for traffic.

It would be amazing to see simple fixes like letting the game support HD and widescreen resolutions natively instead of having to use all the command line options to run the game on big monitors.

I remember also a problem with no trains using the tracks (at least visually); again a mod tokk care of that, but I never manged to get it running.

I just remembered the mod we used, it was called the Network Addon Mod. It had a bunch of extra pieces that we didn't like, but we did like the fix for the path-finding.

Seems the mod was just updated in January even!

Do you happen to have a link for it around? Thank you.

I got it from Mod DB.

I had troubles trying to install the mod to a custom folder though. I had to manually copy files over, but it's working for me with the GOG version of SC4.
