Awesome! Ever since playing that campaign, I wished it had more missions and was a bit longer...
Thanks for posting. I saw the news then came here to see if it had been mentioned.

As noted in the article I saw and the kickstarter link posted above, it will be free for all backers, as well as all owners of Dragonfall. Thanks to Harebrained for that!

I've played the original (I'm a Seattleite after all), but need to play Berlin before the DC makes its appearance.
Any word on what exactly they are changing? I heard something about "improvements". Hoping for a removal or increase of the party limit and improved inventory management during missions, but not holding my breath.
God damn I love this company.

Since those things are part of the core game I don't think they're on the agenda, since then I assume they would have mentioned something about "core game changes" and not just DF changes. Although IMO that inventory system definitely needs to be fixed!

Also I wouldn't mind a bigger party too. It's obviously possible to have more than four on your side at once (e.g. when a scripted character joins your team during a mission), but it would be good to be able to choose more characters yourself at the team member selection screen.

So far the only thing that appears relatively certain is that the new DF campaign will be longer and will feature more missions, which is definitely a good thing. I imagine they'd also tweak the existing missions somewhat while they're at it.

That sounds interesting, but I have to wonder what that means for Karma gain. Will less Karma be doled out per mission, or will there be more net Karma to go around?

Good question. Personally I thought that the karma you ended up with at the end wasn't as high as it should have been - I believe you ended up with higher karma in DMS than in DF (assuming you did the best you could on all missions and side tasks). So in my view they should leave the karma gain for the current missions roughly the same, and just add more - but that of course depends on how many missions they're adding, and ideally it should reflect their difficulty/length.

Speaking of which, I hope they fix up some of the karma-related bugs too. Well not necessarily bugs (though it seemed buggy in the mission with the nutty Rigger), but there are places where karma gain is inconsistent.

Also I'd like to know what the new "features" are though. I know I originally thought decent inventory management was out, but it would be awesome if that was one of them. And/or bigger team sizes. Or...?

The biggest example is the mission with the Dwarf rigger: you're supposed to get bonus karma if you kill him before the bosses show up, but there are certain conversation paths you can have with him where even though you still kill him (and not have him tag along with you for a while), you don't get the points.
I never took that mission; I initially avoided it due to the ethical complications and the other jobs provided enough scratch. That does beg the question if either Alice's fee or the mission rewards will change to require taking more missions; I appreciate all the new content, but short of Karma, there's no real RP reason I can think of to experience it once there is enough to pay Alice. Well, I suppose you could justify it on the grounds of needing extra financing for the op, but that's about it.
Hoping they implement a 'turn off combat mode' button.

That's a great idea, and should have really shipped with it from day one!

Luckily this can (kind of) already be done with the existing engine. The mod "A Stitch in Time" already implements this via a menu accessible by clicking on the player character. But having this as a separate UI button (a la Fallout) would be better.

At the very least they should implement the functionality somehow, even if it is via existing methods (e.g. like the above-mentioned "player menu").

And a "turn on combat mode button". Seriously, so many times that we knew that resistance was on the other side of a door, yet were expected to open the door without everyone else going for cover first and cocking their weapons to get the drop on the people we could see on the video feed.

Well when porkchorp said "turn off combat mode" I inferred that it would be a toggle button to go both ways, a la Fallout.

My personal experience has been similar to yours, i.e. there are many more occasions where I'd like to switch TO combat mode, rather than the reverse.
Great news!

Hopefully this will be bundled with the Linux release from GOG.
