exo: I came to simply state that I was a bit disappointed to see the game was still being sold for money on GoG when it is essentially freeware now. I recently bought the game on GoG, however I think I only paid a few dollars for it, so it is really no skin off my back. On principle however, I dislike seeing a game that is marked as freeware (and yes, it IS freeware now, 3drealms has posted the source code to their website) being sold for money.
Sorry, wrong terminology. The game is
NOT freeware.
- It is free on Steam, but the publisher did not grant permission to redistribute it freely elsewhere. Not the same thing.
- The source code release does not imply any change in is commercial license because, as in many other similar cases, it does not cover any resource or assets (no maps/graphics/sounds/anything.. only the engine)
exo: I assume that it is just a bad timing deal where GoG had arranged to sell it, and then this debacle with keys and what have you on Steam caused the game to go freeware. However, it now falls on GoG to follow through and take care of the paperwork to reclassify the game properly here as well.
It falls on the publisher, not GOG (they can't release it for free on their own, otherwise they'll have to shell out money to the publisher on missing sales)
Apparently the publisher already stated that this version, complete with expansion, will not receive the same treatment.
