I´m trying to play this on an ASUS eee 1001 ha with win xp, but it crashes constantly totally randomly, any suggestions how I could fix this?

To get my version working I was running it under windows 95 compatibility, I only had about 3 crashes throughout the entire game. So if you haven't done so already give that a try by right clicking on the games shortcut, go to properties and then the compatibility tab.
You could also try changing the sound hardware acceleration level. To do this go to start menu, run and then type dxdiag and hit enter. Then just go to the sound tab and play around with the sound hardware acceleration slider.
Thanks, will try that
Tried it and no change whatsoever. Advanced to chapter 2 sofar by saving every step.

Hi guys,
Here's a fix that's worked for me.
There's a 'Performance' slider in the in-game settings accessible from the main menu. Turn that thing down to the minimum, so that it tells you the game might run slower. That's it.
I run it on WinXP and was experiencing crashes all the time. Managed to get to Chapter 8 this way, but the Warrior's Rite cut-scene just came up with a crash every time. Tried all the various compatibility settings, DirectDraw - those didn't work. In the end it was as simple as the above Performance adjustment. Please note: I also still have 256 colours and Disable Visual Themes ticked in the compatibility tab of sntrm.exe (but not 'Run in compatibility'), but I doubt if these make any difference. Just couldn't be bothered to test after all the fun with fixing the crash.
Hope it helps some of you.
My PC is a Dell Inspiron with integrated Intel graphics and WinXP SP3.
Its quite disgraceful that this game crashes so much.

Worked end to end for me. If the game crashes, GOG need crash reports, not complaints (they need those too mind). Is there anything in the Event Log when it crashes? Have people contacted support?

Well, i've seen others with the same issue. It randomly crashes alot. I'm talking every 5-10 mins. It crashes to desktop.

I can still make progress though (by saving and re-loading).

I'm kind of frustrated because my tomb raider 1 had a game breaking bug, as did the end boss fight in Anachronox. Not good.

Report soldier, Report!

I agree with you that the game shouldn't crash. I'm pissed off with GOG about a few games that have issues, however it's not fair unless we're playing ball with them. If you have a repro case, you should contact support, there's information there that they can get hold of, which will help them to fix it for everyone!

You could be a hero :)

Well wpegg, before i contacted support about games and all they asked for was a save file, which (once i found it) was ok. But now they are asking all sorts of technical questions that are beyond me.

Plus i uninstalled tomb raider. Anyway, i agree that we should "play ball" with GOG. They can only do so much to fix games. I have just had a bit of bad luck with my games recently in terms of compatability, and i'm obviously frustrated.

By the way, Sanitarium is already one of my fave games ever. It really is great, and i got it from you Wpegg. Thanks!

Something about getting my dxdiag from my pc. Usually you guys get enough info from a game save. I'm not sure what thats all about.

The DxDiag is basically a text file that gives more exact information about your particular hardware configuration. This gives our Support department a better chance at pinpointing the root of the problem.

Here's a quick and easy guide on how to get the DxDiag:

Click on the Window icon.

In the bar where it's written "search for programs or files" (without quotes), type in "DxDiag" (without quotes :D ).

You'll see a DxDiag icon (a yellow X in a blue circle) pop up. Click that and the DxDiag box will open up. In the lower right-hand corner you'll see a button with the words "Save all information" written on it. Click that and you'll be asked to save a txt file somewhere. That's the DxDiag. Send that in along with your support query and you should be good to go.

Let me know if I can be of any more help :D.

Yes. It's not tied to the game at all :D

I also had problems with Anachronox and now with sanitarium.
