I have the same problem. The game crashes after a few minutes showing the error message already mentioned.

Is the patch coming soon or should I get the refund?

This is a pretty dirty move. Putting the game on a sale when it's unplayable.

I have to agree that it's shady to put a game you know doesn't work on sale.

Doesn't work for some people, and not really that many . I've put at least 200 hours in this game so far, haven't had a single crash .

Would you mind posting some specifics so that we can at least figure out if you're doing anything different from what the rest of us, who are experiencing crashes, are doing?

That's almost the same as mine, except I have a GTX760 and Windows 8.1 Pro. I suspect the OS being different is the most relevant. Could everyone who is experiencing the crash please post your system info here so we can see if a pattern shows up?

same crash with windows 8.1 on my laptop

Getting crashes with:

Intel i3-4360 CPU @ 3.70ghz
8192MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Tried installing on both my SSD and HDD, still crashes.

Running the game with:
Fullscreen: Off
Window Resolution: 1920x1080
Zoom Scale: 2X
Graphics: High
V-Sync: Off
Damage Numbers: On
Frame Skip: Off
Game Volume: 50%
Music Volume 100%
Item Notification: On

Same problem installing under Z:\GOG\

intel i5-2500k
8 GB RAM (DDR3)
ATI HD7870
Windows Home Premium x64

Tried with and without "execute as admin" and with default options.
