Balardie: I don't know much about the modding scene for Resi 1, (i just even recently played resi1 for the first time in march this year), but as far as i can see, i would only include the fmv pack. The Seamless HD Project, in my eyes, gives me a falsified look with the hd textures and the blocky characters. At least for now, this script should give the people a quick way to play the game in the most original intended way.

EDIT: If it's possible to opt in some mods in the script, i would include it in the script for the people who still want to play it in that way.
I agree. While technically very impressive, the HD mod loses the game's atmosphere for me. Maybe it's nostalgia talking but i remember playing the game in 96 and just prefer the low res cruchy graphics.

I could add an option for it, but to be honest not sure I will as I won't be using the mod and testing it I will add an option to disable the HQ FMVs though since I've already had a request for that on reddit :)

headead: How to run Resident Evil GOG version on steam deck with working FMV on Heroic?
Use eskay993's Lutris Script, it simplfies the installation. You only need to download the US Version of Resi1 from GOG and the Unofficial MediaKite 1.01 patch for USA from Nexusmods and the script will everything else do for you.

Stoibs: Yeah hearing mixed reports on this is the only thing staying my hand in purchasing this at the moment..

Why oh why isn't there just a native Steam version =(
Would have bought it in a heartbeat!
Because this was GOG's personal initiative why Steam does not give a F.

eskay993: I wrote a Lutris script and guide to hopefully automate this for peeps as best as possible. It basically run through the steps Dekakst mentions above and installs the REbirth patch which is this is the only confirmed way of getting the FMVs to work for now. The only difference is this script uses the USA/English version not the Japanese version.

github.com/eskay993/gamefiles/tree/main/resident-evil

(sorry not sure how to do links)

Or google "eskay993 gamefiles github" and go to resident-evil.

Testers and feedback welcome. I can look to adding it to the Lutris website but;I've had issue with that in the past.
Following the steps on your github I get the attached after step 12. "FileNotFoundError(2, 'No such file or directory')". About to repeat the process and watch it more closely.

Getting "FileNotFoundError(2, 'No such file or directory')" on 3 different systems. 2 Linux Mint & one Ubuntu Mate.

I have some questions for better understanding:
- is there a specific reason to use the unofficial usa version of the mediakite patch, or is it just personal preference? If there is different content (more/less blood for example) depending on the version, it might be worth to try to offer both possibilities
- Is there a specific reason as to download the zip instead of the yaml?
- in the script you're setting the dpi, does it do anything? Couldn't see any difference between dpi version and none dpi version

Have you tried installing the japanese version of the game via the lutris script and then applying the steps manually to patch the game to 1.01 and then add the rebirth patch?

Convenience. It's easier getting hold of the US installer for most people than switching GOG client regions. Not sure there any content differences.

Dekakst: - Is there a specific reason as to download the zip instead of the yaml?
Lots of people are unfamiliar with github and don't know how to download the raw yaml . So this is something I started doing with the first script that I shared to avoid the constant "the yaml doesn't work" messages :) Just easier telling people to download a zip.

Something I do for my personal scripts and forgot to remove here, but just left it in the end. Basically changes the dpi based on screen resolution. On a small screen you won't see a difference, eg Steam Deck. On a 4K desktop it will resize the REbirth config window so it's bigger and more legible. The game itself will be exactly the same irrespective of the dpi.

Dekakst that works. Thank you.

Downloaded latest version of the script and ran it yesterday. After choosing not to use fancy movies it fails with "no such file or folder"; I then repeated everything while choosing the fancy movies, and everything worked. So I guess something is wrong with the option?

Also to get the low quality movies back I had to move the backup folder into place as well as renaming all movies from .avi to .mp4.

I haven't really taken a look at the lutris script to figure out what goes wrong. But I want to say it worked better than anything available on Lutris currently, even with this slight hitch.
I haven't managed to make the games playable on my steam deck so far. For all 3 I tried installing from both Lutris and Heroic, english and japanese version, with and without the rebirth patches, overriding or not ddraw and dinput...

The best I manage to get is being able to launch the games in desktop mode (no chance in gaming mode so far, they either quit instantly or load forever) and starting a new game. I can run around and interact with doors and items, but the character stops responding when I press what I guess must be the button for the Status menu, so I can't progress very far.
