Hey folks, has anyone got this to work on steam deck? Not working in my experience with lutris on default settings, i just get a black screen. Seeing people having issues with heroic launcher too.

Let us know if youve been able to get it working

Not working for me. I think it may have something to do with AMD APU.
I got it working for my Linux System (installed via Lutris and enabled dgVoodoo2) with the gameplay, but i don't get the FMV's working. I hear only the sound of the FMVs.

Seeing some say it’s working and others saying it isn’t.
Right now “Failed to Initialize Graphics” seems to be a common issue.

Saw this on Reddit, but didn’t seem to work for me

“ Change the proton version to Proton Experimental (other proton versions may work, but experimental is the only one that works on my deck)

Under Advance options, add the following Environment Variable: WINEDLLOVERIDES=ddraw=n,”

I had the "Failed to Initialize Graphics" too, i fixed it when i activated dgvoodoo2 in Lutris.
Yeah hearing mixed reports on this is the only thing staying my hand in purchasing this at the moment..

Why oh why isn't there just a native Steam version =(
Would have bought it in a heartbeat!

I managed to get it to run via Lutris. There is an installer script for the cd version of the game, which does need some editing in order to accept the installer from gog, but it does start and work except the fmv videos mentioned.

Also, fun fact, teeechnically there *was* Resident Evil on Steam, just not what you might expect: https://steamdb.info/app/613140/

A year Ago I managed to make the re1 with rebirth mod work on my steam deck with a combination of dgvoodoo and proton.

Unfortunately the game was crashing randomly so I deleted it. Re2 & 3 and Dino Crisis run fine though.

edit : don't forget the command

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw.dll=n,b" %command%

Using Lutris and enabling dgvoodoo2 in the game settings will work buuut the videos / FMV will only play audio, had a quick look at one and got "unknown avi codec" Maybe if re-encoded they might play back?

Currently trying to find out if that works. Re-encoding is a bit of a suboptimal solution (if it works at all), the ideal fix would be, if there turned out to be a setting that enables the avi to work completely.

According to a post on reddit, someone got fmv's working https://old.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1doubge/comment/laexvha/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=SteamDeck&utm_content=t1_laedsl5

Trying out what they did, but no luck so far.

Edit:
Got the FMV to work, here's a step-by-step

1. Download the japanese version from gog
2. Install using Lutris script (it renames Biohazard.exe to ResidentEvil.exe)
3. Download 1.01 Patch from https://classicrebirth.com/index.php/download/biohazard-pc-cd-rom-patch-version-1-01 and replace the game's executable with the one in the archive
4. Download the the Rebirth mod from https://classicrebirth.com/index.php/download/resident-evil-dll-fix-for-classic-edition and replace the game's ddraw.dll with it
5. go into the game's runner config and turn on dgvoodoo2

When you start the game now, it should at first create a standard config, after that, each launch should bring out the launcher to start the game and play the fmv.

Can you report at a later time if the game is 100 stable ?

Mine crashed from time to time back in the day

Thanks
I cannot get the game to launch using Heroic. Very disappointed so far.

It's stated on rebirth mod page that this version of re1 is not supposed to be compatible with wine due to the color palette not beig detected properly

Did you set the overrides in the Wine prefix? By default, Wine managers like Heroic won't 'see' custom DLLs that utilize injection or hooking, which is what a lot of game mods/fixes do. In Heroic, install the game like normal, then click the 'dial' menu, scroll to the bottom and select 'WINECFG'. In the new window, go to the Libraries tab, and in the 'New override for library' dropdown box, type: ddraw then click Add. Do it again and type dinput then click Add. Heroic should be able to launch the game like normal now. At least, it's working for me.

This is the kind of problem that the UMU Launcher project is looking to fix.
