...completely redone in its entirety in current SOA 3d graphics & sound, under Win7/8/10 x64...! A number of great 3d engines come to mind as possibilities (I know that a member here is trying to setup an Unreal 4-engine based remake)...I think the game would sell like nobody's business and become an instant must-have classic (which it kind of already is.) The possibilities are endless and enormous...I'd also like to see the cut scenes re-shot and displayed in HD FMV...! If you've seen the latest Tex Murphy game then you already know how good FMV can look today--as compared to then, when quality FMV was really not even feasible technically and looked it, too. It's just hard to believe someone has not jumped on this ip with both feet for a modern remake. It's one of the few truly original games available.

I would be all over the remake as long as the new graphics engine still provided the atmosphere of the original. However, I doubt it would sell like no ones business because this game fell under the radar at the time. People thought it was just another FPS using an older engine and thus, not worth playing. In 1997, people were masturbating over the arrival of 3D graphics and 3DFX video chipsets were becoming must haves and ROTH was released right at the end of 1996 just before the 3D graphics craze. Really bad timing for a release. If an FPS wasn't using or wasn't able to use 3D graphics, it wasn't worth playing which is a real shame because ROTH more than makes up for the lack of 3D graphics with other qualities.

Today, the computer gaming market is exponentially bigger than it was in 1997...;) Back then, a $7M kickstarter, for instance, could not have been imagined--a $70M Star Citizen advance purchase/funding was not remotely possible. In fact, the entire consumer computer market today is exponentially larger than it was then. Today, ROTH could easily be done in 3d--which would only enhance the game in many respects. (Even today's game consoles are value-level x86 computers inside.) Today, any game done right & well will bring in decent returns (even lousy games today will sell a lot better than lousy games in '97.)

Yes, if a developer couldn't provide the atmosphere of the original game then why bother at all?...;) In any case, it was just a nice daydream. There are a lot of really great classics that would sell really well if they could be remade with up-to-date APIs and technology, imo. StarFlight is a game that I've always been amazed hasn't been remade--the concept is wonderful, the possibilities endless. Ah, well...sigh...;)

It would need to have a fresh new marketing program, but yeah, I could see it working. IF they stayed true to the atmosphere of the original. And that's a big if. Part of the appeal of the original just might have been the low-res, non-3D graphics, which forced us to fill in the details with our imaginations. A modern engine might just kill that, though I admit I could be wrong.
