Pretty sure that Activision owns the rights, and this was released with Activision's permission. The only thing is GOG used the last PQ: Four Most Wanted collection from Vivendi as base version for this release... That version lacked the EGA PQ.

It should be an easy thing for Activisoin to give them access to a copy of PQ1, unless they lost all their copies :p...

Not that has stopped other owners of Sierra games such as Vivendi pulling together poor glitchy hacked copies of the games from off the internets and releasing them commercially in the past before! KQ6 in the KQ collection by Vivendi and the one GOG has released is based on a modified Russian version if I remember reading...
Posting to add my vote on adding the original version. I bought this taking for granted that the original would be included. I have got to learn to read the description more carefully. But atleast i got to take on Police Quest 4 again. And this time, i WILL be victorius!
Just giving this a bump and to see if anything has changed.

pinpu: As far as I remember, the EGA version wasn't included in the original Police Quest Collection release.

It's a shame because I always liked the EGA version more.
It was actually. The original retail PQ collection had both versions. I remember clearly because this was the first game I bought with my own money as a kid! Big investment back then.

When Sierra was alive, there were two PQ Collections. The first was "Police Quest: The Four Most Wanted", it included PQ 1-4 (both versions of PQ1).

The second collection, known as the "Police Quest Collection Series", included the PQ1-5 (both versions of PQ1).

The third complete collection, known as SWAT Career Pack included PQ1-6 (that's first two SWAT games, and as far as I know both versions of PQ1)

The fourth pack released by Vivendi in 1996 was the" Police Quest: Step Behind the Badge", is exactly the same format as GOG's "Police Quest 1+2+3+4" collection. Both only include the first four games, and only the remake of PQ1.
