hey guys, a little help from planescape veterans please :)

I installed the two highly recommended mods. The widescreen mod and the UI mod...my monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200....so I go ahead and put it like that...but the game looks WAAAY out of proportion....sure I can see the whole map, but seriously my character looks like the size of an ant...and its going to be hard to point and click and anything because everything is so small

Is this how 1920x1200 is suppose to look like? Btw I set my UI to 20% and 120%....characters still look extremely small...I'm guessing this UI mod only works with the text and not the actual graphics/character

Do most people run this game with such a high resolution? I came from the Fallout 1&2 world...and I did NOT run any high res mods...because I also had the same issue, where my character seriously became the size of an ant as soon as I put it to my monitor's native resolution
Yes, that is what happens when you increase the res like that (more pixels = smaller pixels = smaller images). It is actually much better if you set it to a lower widescreen res that your monitor supports instead of its native res or only increase it to a larger 4:3 resolution.

I actually posted a discussion thread in the general forum about this quite a while ago. I believe the general consensus was that while it is nice that you can make these games support modern widescreen resolutions, the fact is they were never designed for that and the results are often much worse than running the game at its original resolution or at a res lower than your native res.

I mean no offense and hope you can laugh at your situation with me, because that sounds hilarious. Definitely suboptimal, though.

Yes. The game's normal resolution is pretty low, exposing very little of the map to the eye, but mods to increase the resolution don't add improved animations; they simply zoom out, allowing you better access to the game world. At intermediate resolutions such as 1024 x 768, this means you get decent map coverage (though not comprehensive, as seems to be the case with 1920x1200) and can still see what you're doing. In fact, at 1024, the game looks prettier than at the default (which I believe is 800 x 600.) I haven't tested it higher yet, as my monitors suck.

Absolutely the case, yes.

I can't imagine they do, no. I'm glad the option's there, if only so that I can try out what you're seeing some day. I really must see it. It would be unplayable, yet as a demonstration of the advancement of technology since 1999, quite impressive.

Yes, this is very much the same problem.

I advise you scale the resolution down. You might try a higher resolution than I have. I would, since on my present playthough I often find myself tracking about with the mouse more than I would like. Maybe 1280 x 800 or 1280 x 1024.
It's from the same era as Fallout, though, so while I still recommend trying slightly higher resolutions, if you found you simply couldn't play it in slightly higher resolutions than its default, this mod isn't for you. (Of course, you can set the mod for the game's default resolution, too, and then you're running the mod without any changes. So long as you also fix the UI and text, of course.)
Addendum:
Please send a screenshot. I'm sorry, I just can't pass this up. It'll be too big for my monitors to take in all at once, but I would love to see it.

The standard resolution is 640x480, which is 7.5 times smaller than 1920x1200, so it's not surprising it was unplayable. I run mine on 800x600 and it looks fine. You can still see detail on the sprites but the map doesn't feel as claustrophobic. Anything larger than 1024xSomething is going to get into the region of unplayable.

Secondly, I found the scaled-up text to be ugly compared to the original font, and at 800x600 I can play without it. At higher resolutions you HAVE to scale the text or else you'll go blind, so you're stuck with it.
thanks for all the replies...i'll just run it stock

You sure there's no chance of a screenshot? There's no way I'll have a video card and monitor capable of this resolution in order to achieve this myself, so I really would appreciate it.

haha, naw no screen shot...i actually dis assembled my rig and on my lap top now...but trust me, if you played fallout 1 or 2 with high res pack...its the same thing...your character looks like an ant at 1920x1200...lol

Well, as stated, it's literally impossible for me to try out these high res packs at that resolution. Leastwise without doing some very strange things to the monitor which simply wouldn't render the same effect. I won't get to see my character the size of an ant in the foreseeable future.
It's all right. I can live without, it's really not that important. But if my max res really is around 1024x768, that 1920x1200 is obviously a bit out of reach no matter what game.
Do 1280x720 or 1280x800. It's perfect.
Actually 1366x768 will look just about right, when stretched to full screen 1920x1080 resolution.

I run it @1024x640 (16:10), which is a pretty good resolution for this game. The native 1280x800 was a bit too small for my tablet screen :)

640x480 is way too small imho and doesn't do the environments justice in this game, that's why I go a little higher.
If you go too high though, it's a lot of pixelly fog to look at, so I won't do that.
I actually run it at 1920x1080 on a 21.5 inch monitor, and I think it looks great. Of course, I come from a background of RTS games, so I'm used to the smaller characters. It makes the Hive look super impressive with all the pedestrians wandering around.

Honestly it all comes down to personal preference. I'll try to upload a screenshot next time I open the game.

EDIT: Capped a screen, but the file size is too big for GoG. I'll post it up somewhere else if anyone is still curious as to what it looks like.

I played it on a 1680 x 1050 resolution. It was a trade-off between seeing a far bigger part ot the landscape and having small characters.
It was definitely playable and, for the sake of screenshots, it is largely worthwhile playing in the highest resolution possible.
I use the same resolution to play Baldur's Gate, Arcanum and, now, Fallout 1 and 2.
These games now look like as they were reborn. They' re symply gorgeous and a lot of nowadays 3D games pale in comparison.
Pardon my awkward English; I hope that everything I wrote makes sense
Personally I played in 1280*800 on 24" screen, it was good tradeoff.
Sorry - didn't mean to resurrect this old thread - days not hours - doh!

I can go up to 1600x1200 but tend to find that 1400x1050 on my 20" monitor works OK for me on these hi-res mods. Sometime I drop down to 1280x1024.

For fun I've been plugging the netbook into my HD LCD video monitor in the living room - 27" 1920x1080 - and firing up some of them. Looks great - only problem is I can't sit close enough! At least not without messing with the furniture, and that would not go down well ;)
