Magic User.
Other then that, dunno.
It turns out I want to be a Cipher most definitely. I always prefer a caster type for my main character and their spells seem very killer and it was no question what class to pick and that decision was most important! After reading all the stuff I also like the Wild-Orlan better as far as the lore and everything else went, and that goes very well with being a Cipher, so, yep, I'm going to play a :

Wild Orlan Cipher from Ixamitl Plains. For weapons I want to go 2-handed melee or throwing axes if they have them viable and how it plays out (if 2-handed melee is actually viable for a Cipher I would definitely prefer that, but it might come that I just want to stay ranged all of the time.) His stats are 10, 10, 10, 16, 16, 16 and his name is Qi'rel.

My girlfriend got really interested in it too, and actually ended up making her character first (she always resists SO hard when I try and get to her to play RPGs, but this might get her warmed to it when she plays.) She made a Moon-Godlike from the Living Lands and is a stealth-focused Ranger with a Stag companion animal. Her name is Glowyn and the stag is Skard.

Now we wait for patches...

earthonline: what character will you create?
Considering that I will not have time for several playthrough, I'll probably go for a godlike cypher that, given the background of the world, could be the most involved race/class combination to play.

But I've always played a human and I could go for human instead of godlike too.

That is what I was thinking I would do intially, but Orlans seem to go better with Ciphering, as much as the godlikes appeal and how it might affect gameplay, the Orlan seemed more "right" to me. So odd, I was set on a godlike before.
I now built a quite intelligent moon-godlike fighter person. I'm in for a bad beating, I guess.
I read about the classes, races, etc. only a moment ago. Thus, I've decided I'm gonna be a human female ranger:
- Human, because fantasy races aren't that cool IMO, besides maybe orc or troll. I don't want to play as a midget or some pointy-ear Thin Man
- Female, because I enjoy watching female characters more. I also tend to get more protective and affiliated toward female characters.
- Ranger, because I get to have a friggin' bear companion from the get-go!
I'm reading manual now - have to wait till I get home to play =\
My character will be wild orlan / cipher.
btw what does effect charm do and how is it differs to domination?
I made a female moon-godlike ranger with an antelope companion. My animal tanks quite nicely while I kill stuff with my bow :P
I started with an Elf Wizard. And then the first character I got in the first town was another wizard... yay...

The at the inn I hired/created an adventurer. Dwarf Fighter, cause I though two wizards need a meat shield. Literally 5 minutes after that I recruited another fighter in my party.... ARGH! So now I have a two wizard - two fighter party.

I think I just might start again. In which case I'll go for a Cipher most likely. Considering all the soul story thing it might be the best fitting class. Not sure what race. Godlike is tempting.

You can't take all companions available, there are 8, you only have 6 slots. But there are 11 classes.

The classes that there are no companions for are Barbarian, Monk, and Rogue.

I don't know yet which of the companions are fun though. The make-it-yourself companions won't have any special dialogue or side quests (I think). But some of the companions may be more important that others just for story or entertainment value (as in you always want Minsc in BG).

I also don't know which companions are going to be well built. They don't have to be minimaxed, but if some of them are just sort of useless then it won't hurt to be one of those classes. Ie, if the fighter guy can't tank then the player can be the tank.
