bearcat722: I was working on a new build for a new EE playthrough and saw that for DD you get the +4 str and +2 AC by level 5. Was this always this way? I thought you got those bonuses by level 4.
https://i.imgur.com/AYsI1Mw.png it sure is the old way for me still.

Galwail: Thanks for all the awesome builds. I will use most of the companion ones, but I have trouble picking one for the MC. I really like the idea of a front-liner with strong pet, decent damage and AC, but I would also like to do a LG playthrough. Is it possible to build an effective character like that?

I'm currently thinking about following:
1) Base class inquisitor - sacred huntsmaster.
2) Take 1 level of monk to improve AC.
3) Take 4 levels of ranger to give favored enemy bonuses to my pet.
4) Would you ditch ranger levels, or maybe flip it around (like ranger 16/inquisitor 3/monk 1)?
5) Will STR build have enough AC to survive hard, or do I have to go DEX?
6) Do I have to take aasimar for the wings?
7) Is boon companion worth it for this build?
8) Do levels of sacred huntsmaster stack with ranger for the favored enemy bonus?

Sorry for asking so many questions. Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated.
1) sacred is ok... at least so long as you don't compare him much to what could be done
2) always good
3) don't preoccupy yourself with a pet. It's nice that it's there, but ultimately it's just a beefier fodder that can take an alpha strike and some such even if it can do some damage sometimes.
4) What's the point in RA16 to begin with? Ra 15 gives all the good things the class has to offer. 1 level can go to Vivisectionist to get some extra AC and damage. being 1 level behind on a pet wouldn't matter by endgame anyways.
5) So long as it's monk - yes. Might need gyronna ammy, but it'll be fine. Str has size buffs to it, so...
Also monk AC works with shields, so TWF shield is not out of the question, although it wouldbe bit nightmarish to try and fit everything in. I'd probably opt for vanquisher instead.
6) Not really. Wings are nice for mid-game ramp, but they are nothing special. It's totally not the "have to" thing. It's more about "I got everything I wanted - might as well grab wings". I'd sooner consider motherless as it'd give you everything you want and an extra attack for good measure. You can also consider sacred 12/V2/M1/Mad Dog5 with a bit of alignment shifting midgame and the use of the scroll to return back once you are done with mad dog levels for better trip/tandem trip combo on you and your pet. Will have to pick a god that is fine with NG and kinda min/max-y, but...
7) yes. While focusing on a pet is a road to nowhere, hindering it for no good reason is not very useful either.
8) they are parallel, you won't be able to pick the same favored enemy for the 2nd class. Generally you go deep into one or the other.

First of all, let me thank you for making all these builds. I’ve been playing crpgs for 20 years and the speed and quality of all these builds are extraordinary. You also take time to update the builds, and that is what my question is about:
I’ve been using your Sylvan Sorcerer build. Yesterday you updated it, moving it from a summon oriented build to a CC/damage oriented build. Could you explain a bit about your thinking behind this?
On the face of it, this updated version looks better. I’ve been using a party with six companions and two pets (including the pet from this build), and summons have seemed unnecessary.

Mostly the fact that fighting defensively no longer triggers on ranged attacks, so that part is rather useless. So, naturally next best thing is forgetting about AC wholesale and focusing on better CC. Also after some more testing I decided to drop summons and just use animate dead if needed. Could double as a transmuter if I really wanted to, that's kinda valid as well for even more CC, but I feel like some endgame AoE damage would be better. It's not as shiny as AT would have, but it's totally serviceable. Stormbolts top out at 240 damage with grandmaster rod, which is not bad at all. That being said, sylvan sorc loses pretty much nothing being a merc with 5/17/15/11/7/19 spread, so to use it as MC or not is up for debate.

Is there any way to make a good Fighter/mage? Something with good AB and Caster level?

On NWN you can make very strong Gish classes but not so much on pathfinder.

Hey not bad 4 base APR and level 8 spells. Could it work with a Sylvan sorc to get a Leopard as well?

not really.
How does UMD work for equipping items that you don't meet the requirements (class, alignment, etc) to equip? I would guess, item properties determines DC class. If so, is there a way to see it? Also when the roll is made? Are there rerolls available?

Asking because I was running through dungeon with my level 15 scroll savant with maxed out UMD, so 15 + 3 for class skill + 3 CHA bonus, but still couldn't equip monk robes I've found a couple of levels earlier.

Would it be better if it was dex based with dual wield? I see people on YT using a dex based EK to solo unfair but they get level 9 spells (I think the AB will be bad though).

if you want to solo unfair - play kineticist. It's not that hard, just tedious as hell.
As to str vs dex - str has more buffs, and that in turn means higher AB. AC is not a problem with any competent build as most anything can reach 70AC.

What does a kineticist even do?

More or less murders everything. Only problem would be early levels, but it's a problem any solo deals with. And once deadly earth comes around nothing even moves in your direction.

missed your post, sorry.
UMD does not work for equipping items at all in PK. It would be nice, but it doesn't. Still, being able to use cleric scrolls is valuable and very much worthwhile.

So "Mastery" fauchard just dropped in Act 5/6 transition for me from the artisan. It has that sweet +cmd for moar trip all day long but a normal 2x crit multiplier compared to serpent's prince.

So is the Serpent's prince still the better weapon because of the 3x crit multi (especially on a 15-20 range fauchard)?

wait mastery specifically says "whenever the wielder hits with a combat maneuver (like trip?) mastery deals damage as if it were a hit" ...so it's better? If you trip all the time?
