Hi,

I've seen the posts mentioning that this was successfully slowed by the install when people asked about the issue, but it still seems at least a minor problem to me, albeit not rendering the game unplayable so far. For instance, basic yet easily noticeable points - talans clearly walking too fast, sound out of sync, and especially apparent during the early sneak test, with it being unbeatable due to Jan close to spinning without a pause. Haven't engaged in combat yet, but have tried CPU grabber, with little discernible effect.

Anything more to be done for it, or just accept that a little too much speed is normal now? Using Windows XP. Had to turn off sound acceleration and also have 640x480 patch installed, which possibly slowed it a touch more, although display occasionally goes black.

If your running a dual or quadcore machine you could try setting the game to run only on one core. To do so just load the game up and alt-tab-del out to taskmanager. The go to the processes tab and find the outcast games process. Right click that and select set affinity and set it to core0.

I've tried Ralackk's suggestion, but no deal. What did work was running it under Wine. I have a dual boot with WinXP and Ubuntu 12.10, so, from Ubuntu, i just ran it straight from the windows disk with wine and it ran almost flawlessly.

i've heard about 'wine for windows' that you could probably try, since it is used to fix compatibility issues like these.

Cheers o/
Some more info on your system would be useful... processor especially. I ran the game under XP off an original CD version and was able to get it running with CPUGrabber. My memory is that it wouldn't start at all without CPUGrabber, and it was a pain finding the correct setting, and even then I think a few weapons didn't work properly. But I never had problems with Talan moving too fast or anything.

The GOG version incorporates a fan-made modification that is supposed to fix all processor speed issues, however, so you shouldn't be having the problems you are. Definitely try the suggestions from other posters in this thread and see if they help.
