So I've been wanting to go through NWN2's campaign with a friend for a while now.
Year ago we managed to get the planets to align and direct connect to each other's game but we didn't get all that far before it stopped working and we gave up after a lot of failed troubleshooting.

I want to go about it again but just wanna know what's the best way to do it?
I've got the client extension but if I create a server with that going and my friend runs the game with the extension as well,. will the server I created appear in his server list when he refreshes it?
Do we both need port forwarding set up? Is direct connect still an ideal way to get co-op going and if so how do I know for certain what IP he should be trying to connect to when the server is up?

I only ask all this because there's quite a bit of information out there about joining existing servers but I've found precious little about setting up your own one for the sake of campaign co-op.

We tried about half a year ago to get a LAN game going using both Tunngle and Hamachi but neither worked for us when we tried connecting to each other.

Thanks to anyone who answers.

First, you need to determine your external/public IP address. Go to www.whatismyip.com to see what that is. Give that IP address to your friend and have him try to direct connect (once you've started your server, of course).

If he's not able to connect at first, you may need to enable port forwarding on your router:

Another thing you can try is Gameranger its very easy to use just create an account add your buddies account and you can connect to the same lobby and launch the game
OK, I think we've got it locked down now.
Turns out my friend has a TP link router that says "virtual server" instead of port forwarding so he was setting up port triggering instead. Once we got our port forwarding set up correctly with internal IP address being the one that comes up for your comp in ipconfig (he was just using a random IP) everything became MUCH more reliable.
Before that maybe 1 in 10 connect attempts would actually work and we thought a bunch of other stuff was the cause of previous failures. I think we're good now.
Many thanks for the responses!
