For most of us reporting this issue we get a CTD as soon as the game tries to run.
A Full screen black window, for a second or so, then CTD, no game exe running to wait for.

- Yes, I know. I've used it myself. But since GOG entered the stage, with the idea you don't have to use stunt tricks like downloading obscure (for most people) cracks to get something to work, it should work no matter. So no, you haven't got Revelation to work using W10 as the platform. Not without the use of a crack.

Don't know what some of you are having problems with. The GOG version seems to run just fine for me on latest version of W10 Pro. Got on the tram thing with the daughter, entered Dad's lab, fiddled with video options, messed with some of the lab equipment. No problems at all. 4790K, GTX 1080 with 398.11 drivers. Haven't been able to get latest drivers to work with Deus EX Human Revolution Directors Cut regedit and game tweaks yet. Runs fine with 398.11. Myst IV may go to hell but it feels really stable. My why the hell won't this game run is Fallout NV. F3 complete run, no problems. F4 ran 1100 hrs. total on various runs with no problems. FNV I can't get out of Goodsprings without freezes, graphic problems, you name it.

After trying many many options on Win10 Pro 64-bit to get Myst IV running, I've done it! Instead of doing compatibility support, set run as admin, and run in 640x480 mode. That's it. No other options, boots right away.

Ok correction, it ran ONCE with those options, but it's a start...

I think that a lot of us are having some differnt issues. It's unfortunate this is happening.

yes it was the dvd and I think from memory the 10th anniversary version pack. I was using a no cd patch but that was only so I didn't have use the physical disk. maybe it bypassed the security also.

I have the same issue with Myst IV, after Myst III ran perfectly for the whole game.

As a poster above, I seem to have gotten further now by running it as Admin. Instead of immediately exiting after changing the resolution, the game is now sticking around. Primary monitor has gone 800x600 by the looks of it, and the game hyas been starting now for 3+ minutes. Very little visible drive activity, desktop still visible on primary but with "foreground app busy" cursor aka spinning circle without the pointer arrow. I guess that means I will get to play it, at some point.

Everything as up to date as it can be, no issues with other games, and as mentioned - Myst III ran perfectly, no tricks required.

PS - still waiting for it to start. Definitely over 5 minutes now... I didn't realise Myst IV had puzzles before you even get in game!

This weekend I have some to free time I'm going to sit down and see if I can get Myst 4 to run. I'll see if disabling certain hardware/software is going to make this thing run. It works for other players so why not us.

My bet is that the problem stems from the codec from BINK Video. It should play some intro videos right after the game starts. BUT there's no codec among the installation files of the game and W10 doesn't have them installed by default. I tried to download some from the radgametools site but can't find them.
As I wrote, that's just my humble assumption.

The only file required to play the videos is the binkw32.dll file and it is included. And before you try, you shouldn’t try updating it as it is not compatible between versions.

Same issue here. Launch. Resolution change. Resolution revert.

The Windows Event Viewer says it's crashing. "0xc0000005" (IIRC that's an access violation). Did someone forget to check for `nullptr`? Happens to the best of us.

For those having issues, as a long shot try enabling DirectPlay if it isn't already. I vaguely recall that being needed for some older games to work properly. Under Control Panel > Programs and Features, choose "Turn Windows features on or off". Scroll down to Legacy Components and put a checkmark by DirectPlay if there isn't one. (You'll need to be admin to do it). That's about all I can think of, it's been working just fine for me over here.

DirectPlay is not required for this game.

I had this same problem but I have a workaround. This works for me, not sure it'll work for you. The problem on my end had to do with my headset. I have a Razer headset and I don't believe Myst IV likes that it's routed through Synapse. I had the same problem with the disc version but the game actually gave me an error: "Myst IV cannot use audio source because another program is already using it."

If you have a Razer headset, try using another pair of headphones or speakers. Completely unplug any Razer headsets.
