Maybe you're lacking the d3dcompiler_47.dll which is causing the same problem on Linux. I wonder if that would fix your issue as well.
if D3dcompiler_47 is the source of trouble, you could try to install DirectX. It should already be installed, but you may need to install a newer version.
Check out https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/179113/how-to-install-the-latest-version-of-directx

Checking my system, I can see the .dll file is available in my C:\Windows\System32 folder (and thus likely easily readable by any program which need it)
It is also found in the Gog Galaxy client folder
My Opera browser folder
My Discord folder
My Minecraft folder
My Firefox folder
and quite a few other places.

Copying the file from somewhere else on your system into the game folder, And perhaps the x86 or x64 folders as well would make it available without installing DirectX again, though if one thing is missing, chances are others are too.

Also you may want to check the Event Viewer of your system. Not sure what it would be named in French, but pressing Windows key + R to bring up the run dialog, and typing eventvwr and hitting enter should open the event viewer, regardless of language.

Under Windows logs (folder with a small monitor icon), select the program/application log and check if any errors or warnings pop up around the time you start the game, it may log errors there.
I've looked around for where the game could be saving log files, but either it doesn't at all, or it only does so if it crashes.
Ok so after trying to update windows, I could not boot anymore, so after a win reinstall and full update, I got an "xaudio2 not supported" error, try to install latest DX redist but same, then installed DX SDK and finally the game works.

TBF that windows install was old and a cleanup was due.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Fairly certain that I don't have the DirectX SDK. But great it worked. Guessing XAudio might be included with something else.

Hope you enjoy the game after having apparently also gotten a big puzzle to start with.

I have the same problem but I'm using offline installer x64 64bit.
Offline installer, win 7 64 bit, same issue. I found a copy of that dll and pasted it around a few places, but just got a different error code instead. Searched online and found this post on Steam:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/449610/discussions/0/3158631000001011702/

Downloaded the Microsoft update pack mentioned there

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4019990

and the problem is solved. Tho, the first time I ran the game after running the update, the sound broke after two seconds and then the game froze at the menu screen. But after shutting it down with task manager, I launched it again and it worked.

Someone should tell the devs to use an established engine next time, because I've installed over 350 games from this site, and this is the first time I ever had to search google for troubleshooting info and then download a patch from microsoft to get a game to run. I felt like I fell through a wormhole and was trying to get games to run in 1996. :P

WINDOWS:
We highly recommend Windows 10 but the game is also Windows 7 and 8 compatible. During testing with Windows 7, QA noticed that Windows 7 must be fully updated in order to run the game properly. Please check if all available Windows 7 updates are installed before running Monster Boy.

Aha! So it is not Windows7 Compatible!
Same scenery same nonsense with Cyberpunk 2077!

(Note: Problem solved. I wanted to create my own topic but I posted it here by mistake and there is no way to delete it. Sorry for the inconvenience)

Hello,
The game won't open (Demo on steam). I launched the game once and I enjoyed the entire demo without problems (max settings). The game crashed when returning to the main menu. Since impossible to launch the game (launch stuck on a windowed white screen)
- windows 8.1 64bit (updated)
- geforce 840M (updated)
- 8GB ram,
- i5 CPU 1.60 GHz (2.30 GHz)
