Is it just me or does this run your video card at EXTREMELY hot temperatures. I as using MSI's after burner and I can run Skyrim on Ultra and keep a level 58 degrees Celcius but when I am just in the menu of Grimrock my card jacked up to 90 degrees. I'm running it on an N560GTX-Ti with the latest Nvidia drivers 296.1.

turn on vsync

the game use so little system resources your gpu is going max power to make 200 fps, making it go hot

with vsync you force it to refresh rate of your screen ( normaly 60) and reduce the load of your gpu that is unessesery you don't need 200 fps

second of topic. an 560 ti with 90 degree usualy means it's a little dusty in the colling ribs on your card

in the past i have had issue with the auto fan speed not adjusting correcly with temperature going manual mode and boost the fan speed might also help

my latest nvidia card the 295 gtx survived up to 120 degree before shuting down

tl:dr turn on vsync in the video option ingame

Thanks that did it. It was the only option I didn't have selected. I've never run into the issue before. So good to know.
Cheers.
Plus you might want to enable Triple Buffering instead of normal V-Sync. Slightly less input lag. The input lag is still quite annoying for me tho :(

Oh. Dear god.
You might just have solved so many of my heating problems and explained how some games just burns the hell out of all the way to the blue screen.

I've had these problems for years, yet you explained it without even using proper capitalization.

Dear lord.

Ah, maybe that's part of my movement control "speed" issue. Input lag. When I first installed the game movement felt very smooth - it was very fast still but I didn't seem to unintentionally turn in circles as much, at least.

Drat. I can't turn vsync off either. Game really needs a fps cap or something.

Try messing with the cfg file in the documents folder...because i managed to get it working on a crappiest graphic card ever o.o;;;
If a game can overheat your GPU then your GPU (or case in general) is not adequately cooled. VSync and the like are only questionable software workarounds for a flawed hardware setup.

I have 6 case fans and a room air conditioner. I don't think that's the problem.
I've run with vsync off forever, for all my games over 15+ years (edit-when did vsync start anyway?)...this is the first time a game has ever done this to a GPU on one of my PC's. Skyrim on Ultra+mods, Metro2033 dx11 maxed, etc. - all stay around 60. This game, it jumps to 95 in about 40 seconds if I leave vsync off.

It's not just a few people...seems like a lot are having that issue w/this game. What the reason for it truly is, I have no idea.

Oh. Interesting. Seems my view of the matter was too simplistic then.

Might be a driver issue. I wouldn't be surprised if drivers these days did some sort of heat distribution management beyond merely adjusting fan speed. I feel like game developers should absolutely never be responsible for the thermal effects of their graphics API usage patterns. If a public API allows some sequence of operations, a properly cooled card should be able to handle them :/
With an nvidia card and one of the later drivers along with nvidia inspector you can add a frame limit to specific game profiles between 1 and 120+ I think. It works great especially if you're annoyed by VSync's input lag or if the game doesn't support either VSync or a frame limit.

I don't know if this exist for ATI/AMD cards but maybe.
Oh? I usually don't install all the extra stuff for the GPU, only the drivers -well, and with nvidia, the control panel/settings menu etc. I'll look Inspector up. That does sound handy.
It also features all those fancy different versions of AA, there are a lot of them but unfortunately I barely notice jaggies at 1080p so I almost never use it and I don't know, no matter what game AA seems to bring down performance even in older games..

I think with the 301 beta drivers Nvidia released recently and the newest Nvidia Inspector you have even more options so it's worth looking into. :)

Thank you - the frame late limiter does help with the input lag! What FPS target gives you the least tearing?

Yeah, I don't care much about AA all that much either. Usually 4x is plenty.
Is Inspector a 3rd party thing? I can't find it on their site (maybe I'm just lame...). Do you have a link? Or alternatively, I use EVGA Precision, and it seems to have something called a framerate limiter option (see pic). Think that would do the same thing?

EDIT: nevermind, it does work to limit the frames. Thank you very much for making me think of such a thing and thus inspiring me to check the programs I already had. Very useful! :) I find 100fps to be working well. Without limiting it, the game seems to run a near constant 250ish fps.
