Hi,

I have a problem with Soul Reaver. Shortly before I reach the cemetary the game crashes when I pass a specific line. So it's no random crash.

I draw a red line in the attached picture, that you can see the exact border where the game crashes.

It's a bit strange. I already was on the cemetary but then quit the game. After reloading the game and wanting to return to the cemetary, the game started to crash at this specific point.

Hey !

I have the same isseu at the same spot ! If Raziel walks though this line, the game crashes.

I tried to load the game with differents graphic settings, same thing. And if i die in Spectral Realm, go back to the Abyss, save. and hten load the save to have a "cleared" save, i crash at the same line.

Someone has a solution ?

I play on Windows 10. Maybe i'll try the Emulated PS1 version ^^

Someone has an idea ?

Regards

Try to restore the game cash (I do know how it is possible on gog, on Steam there is official option for this). Perhaps, some game files (preferably bigfile.dat) are corrupted. Also you can upload your save somewhere - I will check it on my PC.
PC version have critical bugs with saving system that exclude some world parts state in specific form from specific save point saving.
Probably, there is always been minor place(s) where CTD happen always not matter what form of Raziel is used before entering that place.

Probably, some saving bugs are taken from original PS1 version. I'm not sure that I remember it correctly, I just know that some console games incl PS1 have technical troubles back then.

Check PCGamingWiki. As I remember, that site describe one backtracking bug (again, in specific form of Raziel) marked this as "minor".

QWEEDDYZ, please, do not provide desinformation.

On PCGamingWiki, in the article for SR1, there is also evident desinformation, including link on the winplay.dll on the site of dgVoodoo (outdated version of this dll, for the original Eidos Escape Player, which is not used officially from 2012 - i.e. from release of SR1 on gog and Steam with bink patch which contains new version of winplay.dll, which was created from zero) and link on the Hungarian translation which is the part of my patch (and this translation on the forum of PCGamingWiki also contains my patch; exactly, version 1.2.4.* while now I released already the version 1.2.5.4 and soon will be released the version 1.2.5.5 with the native support of XInput). Also SRHook does not work no more with my patch - I improved the code for the WideScreen fix to do not use constructions that cause crash of the game after bink movies (original code of WideScreen in SRHook requires using of such constructions while my code does not need them). Support of additional hotkeys of SRHook (that can't be reassigned while I provide such possibility in my patch) was desactivated in my patch years ago due to conflict of this code with utility DxWnd. Fix for FPS Limit (the last feature of SRHook) I also added in my patch. With limitation on 60 FPS because using of bigger values also lead to the crash of the game.

About "bugged save system": I played (and playing) in SR1 about 20 years, on different OS, including Win98, WinXP and Win10. And I NEVER saw bugs with saves. Only one guy (for all time of my support of SR1 - i.e. for 12+ years) provided for me the save with constant crash at the certain place, but when I loaded this save on my PC, the game worked fine, without crash. Because the reason of his crash was in corrupted game files and refreshing the game solved this problem.

P.S.: from the version 1.2.5.0 of my patch, the game also stores location of the save. In addition to this I added additional option in the starting dialog ("Blocks") which is desactivated by default. This option allows to start new game with already solved block puzzles. ;)

PC version always have CTD on first or second save room when you first go there. Just try saving with differ form (as ghost), try backtracking. And literally exit and reload save file even if you do not want to close game right now. I remember how I just check how saves are work, did it forced Raziel to ghost or ghoul forms. I dont remember did it or not - but i remember that i always have CTD from one of the first two saves point if i do some backtracking and/or use specific form before saving.

I check PCGW and it advise skip one of the save points as well - but not first or second (I dont remember which one is always bugged for me).

Im talk about vanilla PC version without hook.
Vanilla PC version - is this one with or without the official patch 1.2?
Because without it the game works really unstable - I remember this moment.
And we are talking about gog version of the game - with the patch 1.2 and with the bink patch.

P.S.: it will be helpful if you or ones from PCGW will record the video with such "bug".
On the Steam/gog (they are the same) version, of course. And will try to repeat the same with the last version of my patch.
Because without real proofs you will provide just tales, not truth.
