I would like to see the CD version with voices. Not only because of the voiced characters but because of the better talking animations compared to the text ones.
I really wish there was some way to have speech AND text in KQ5. The voice quality is so poor that it's difficult to understand what characters are saying sometimes.
Given the choice, I would opt for text only.

Did they manage to diable KQIV's DRM? I don't want to have to pull up a PDF of a manual every time I play...

Easy enough to do, but could be considered "cracking" the game. I'm not sure how that would go over here.
where do you seve on kq5

quique: where do you seve on kq5
Do you mean "save"? If so, this is a well known bug with KQ5. Change the line in the DOSBox config in the [autoexec] section at the bottom from just SIERRA.EXE to:
SIERRA.EXE C:\RESOURCE.CFG
You MUST specify the full path to the RESOURCE.CFG as DOSBox sees it.
I never saw an answer to the question if KQIV includes the AGI version. Does anybody know if it does?

No, just the SCI version.
That's what I was afraid of. Thanks!
I bought whole King's Quest series from promo and I was very suprised that they run them on DosBox! Why not ScummVM? Then they could include Windows version of KQ6 (and floppy version of KG5)!
GOG please!

PS. Becouse I've already have KQ6 I didn't check it came with CD image. So maybe there is a win version also.
^^ Yup in another post I've found that when usin ScummVM we can choose dos or win version of KQ6! Good :)

JDV72: 1) Will the AGI version of IV be included?
avatar
Collector: I would highly doubt it. As I said, the AGI version is very rare and has nothing to offer over the SCI version
Actually AGI version does have some unique differences. Different artwork in some of the screens. Building construction of mansion is different, some of the screens have more plants and bushes for example. The AGI has a different script/text narration etc. There are a few extra things to look at in some places in the AGI version this includes some squirrels or random birds not found in the later SCI versions. Puzzles are largely the same, although time related puzzles function a bit differently IIRC?

Obviously the forementioned easter egg. I think there is also an additional PQ related easter egg in the mansion. Nothing particurarly special, just a certain bit text that pops up if you look at something the right way. Although I've never tested it, and it may just be something that was left in the game files, but not used. Kinda like the' kill King Edward' easter egg deaths (two versions), or the perverted description fo Valanice in KQ2.

Are the versions of KQ5 and KQ6 included in the KQ4+5+6 pack on GOG the CD-ROM versions?

Thank you,
No, they're the DOS versions

* I should state, they are the CD ROM DOS versions. They include the voices

I thought it might be good thing to point out that, if all you are interested in is seeing the intro to the floppy version of KQ6. It's included in the demo version of KQ6. The demo is uploaded in a few places around the web.

I want to request as well that the floppy non-talkie versions for V as an option. The voice acting is terrible and works against the nostalgic memories I have of these games.

edit: actually it is so bad I can't play the game. Cringe inducing. Garbage.
