hi all,

when i discovered this game i was extremely excited to play it. and i still am, but unfortunately, im unable to. i have tried absolutely every single solution posted here and in other places. nothing has worked.

what im wondering - are the devs on here at all? have they done any work looking into what service interferes with starting up the game?

ive tried every compatibility mode, resolution changes, disabling services, etc.. the game just does NOT start up. i REALLY just want to play this. please.

thank you

David Dunham is quite active here as ddunham. Hope he (or someone else) will be able to help.

Sorry, I absolutely cannot help with anything related to Windows compatibility. I don’t think I’ve owned a Windows machine in about 10 years.

GOG is pretty good about support. I suspect they will want to know about your setup though.
If you use a logitech controller, make sure it's unplugged and the process isn't running.

Did you try running it in "Windowed mode"?
Yep, I'm having exactly the same issue. Resolution changes, the game does not start (there is no game window). When kodp.exe is killed the resolution goes back to normal. What is "Windowed mode" and most importantly how to try and run in it?

Right click on the shortcut, and under Target put this in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\King of Dragon Pass\KoDP.exe" -w
I'm right about to give up on this as well. I have tried every method above except turning off my antivirus which is avast because I have no idea how to turn it off. It seems that most issues here has the game changing the computer's resolution, but I don't even know if I have that. My screen just turns black when I start the game and I can't do anything except turn off the computer.

I remember having something similar before with Bastion. I think it was a graphics card issue because it's ATI. So I used the same solution which is to put -windowed -noborder in Target, but that didn't work.
I have the same problem. I had to re-install my W7, and after the re-install KoDP just doesn't work. The process starts but no window is ever shown.

I tried the tricks in the Support page, except turning off UAC - it's there for a reason, and I didn't have to turn it off previously.

Hey GOG, could you please help? This is a nice game, but not starting is kind of an issue with it.
I have exact same issue, black screen and only thing I can do is to turn off the computer. I have now tried several means fixing this issue, nothing works. I have ATI card (on my laptop) and Win7 myself.

Though last thing I tried was borrowing the CD from a friend (Reason why I bought it, becouse i've liked the game so much), installed it and tried. And ta-da it worked. But the copy out of GoG is not working.
Maybe your system has problems to run the game in the specific resolution of 640x480. You can try to rightclick on the shortcut, choose properties, go to the compatibility tab and uncheck the running in 640x480 resolution option or even uncheck the other options too.
Then the game will start with the desktop resolution, but you'll have a small game window in the middle of the screen surrounded by big black borders.

The game use to be fine, now it experience this issue. Maybe the ATI graphic card driver update ruined it?

Quite possibly. When you say it 'used' to be fine, do you mean a day or so ago, or some months ago? If it was a couple of days ago, think about what's changed on your system since then and try to disable it.

A graphic card driver update is entirely possible as an explanation. Which graphics card is it, if you know?
I can confirm that logitech drivers are an issue. I was only able to start the game after disabling my logitech mouse and joystick drivers. Unfortunately I bought the game this summer and only now tried to play it so I cannot get a refund.

The gamecard should indicate that the game is not compatible with Logitech devices.

Both my keyboard and mouse are Logitech, is there anyway I can disable them both and then somehow re-activate them without a mouse or keyboard, after starting the game? Or is the issue Logitech things being active at all while the game is running?
