gamesfreak64: my old xp runs games even older then kod, so i guess kodp is just one of those games that turns your hair grey before you can get it to work :D
Ah nevermind ...
The game engine is particularly touchy. Usually once you get it running it's stable. I guess you could try older or newer video/audio drivers. Did you try it on your Win 7 machine yet. The game's worth the hassle of even running it on a secondary PC.

on win7? eh? not yet, you see i have win7 because xp has no support, but i do have to get used to working with win7, everything is completely differnt i spend more time searching then enjoying using win7

fact is i did use xp for a very long time, xp is like a second nature to me, win7 is new, so i guess i have to get used to it.

I can try it but but win7 is also very picky with older programs.

Are you using just graphic drives or with some programs?
And have you tried xp with second pack?

v1989: Are you using just graphic drives or with some programs?

My XP is updated with all the available service packs and updates: SP3 was the last pack.
As for win7: i guess i will try some games on it later on
Like i said i have xp (32bit) and win7 64 bit
It was time to check that slow dinosaur of a win7 to see if it had updates, and it had...
So i started my win7 64bit to install the updates... after a very long time ( win7 updates are slow and large)
the updates were done.

So i thought let's check the games while i am in win7.

surprise:
KODP started up right away without having to change a bit. Nice :D

However :

1)Plane Scape Torment had issues, assertion failed in error (see attachment)

2)Sanitarium had issues, it starts up, but
graphics are messed up with bright blue, grey red and orange blocks, which makes the game not playble because i cant clearly see the controls or menu.

3) KKND xtreme has issues: first it comes up that the .exe wants to connect to something like lan or network , a silly message, i clicked okay and it started up.
But the graphics are messed up...

4) Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete: starts up but takes longer and seems slower to startup then on the good old winXP.

5) Broken Sword II - The Smoking Mirror : doesnt seem to do anything, doswindow pops up, but, nothing else happens...

I just hoped that only KODP would not work on win7 , and the other 5 would work, but thats no true.

So on win7 the King Of Dragon Pass works but now i have multiple challenges,: fix those games to work properly under win7 cause sooner or later i will have to use that win7.

Or abandon third pack for XP.:P
I have second one and everything works.

For other things:
1)For sanitarium try different graphic options in the game especially that with antilysing or frequency.
2)KKND Reinstall, without access to internet, read if anything show up and try to play without installing other things.
3)Heroes it seems lack of Ram or space at HDD
4)If game is using dosbox or scrummv try run that program without any game and then get access to the game.
5)For planescape reinstall and if there are any directxs with game install them.
I griped about the resolution not working but then figured out after reading gog discussion pages that what worked on my 15" 1366 laptop was to set shortcut properties to Win 98/ME compatibility mode, and have 640x480 checked, and everything below that, and make sure the username with admin rights had admin (read/write/modify) rights because they weren't checked. Adding -w to the shortcut did NOT help me at all, can't get it to window successfully, and unwilling to make windows fonts smaller because of older eyes. So the bottom line is, running fullscreen, 640x480 and win 98 compatibility did the trick.
For me on win 7 64 home. I Let properties from gog untouched, but run it with 98 compability.

After seeing Vikings show I wanted to start my own tribe. Hope something will work. It is great game
This was posted elsewhere but for anyone who missed it this worked for me. If you use Chrome go to the task manager (ctl+alt+del) and end the process for the following:
chrome.exe
setpoint.exe
wligsvc.exe
wligsvcm.exe

Once I did that the game changed resolution and started with no short cut changes. This was on Windows 7. I was also able to alt+tab to the desktop.

None of these worked for me.

To solve the issue and be able to launch the game, I had to unplug the xbox pad.

It took me quite some time to figure this...

I had the same issue on Win 7/64 today: The game didn't start, no matter what compatibility-mode I tried. In the task manager, there were the appropriate processes ("kodp.exe"). I remembered a similar problem I have had with Gothic 2: I just killed the process "rundll32.exe" in the task manager and the game started.
