I downloaded Icewind Dale 2 Complete via the GoG Downloader. When I then try to install the game, I IMMEDIATELY get the following error:

An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:
D:\Games\Icewind DaleII\Config.exe

MoveFile failed; code 5.
Access is denied.

This is happening as a clean install, no mods, and the installer file passes the integrity check. My OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

Anyone have any help with this?

Are you running the installer as Admin? If not, then try it that way. I'm also on a 64 bit Win 7 system and had no issues installing any GOG games on my rig, but I always run the installer as admin.

I tried running as Admin and turning off UAC altogether.

Probably overzealous AV. Try disabling it completely.
I'm having the same issue. My antivirus is identifying several of the installer files as trojans.

While the antivirus may indeed be "overzealous," without any evidence that it isn't a trojan I'm inclined to look on this game with a jaundiced eye.

I'm looking around to see what I can discover about this, whether it's a false positive or not. I'll post again if I find out anything.

This is the first problem I've ever had installing a GoG game. I'm hoping it's temporary.

It's definitely a false positive, unless you think all of us with the game installed haven't noticed we've got a trojan. I scan my system regularly and nothing. I've had the game installed since it was released here.
Yes, I had thought of that. Thanks for the affirmation, though, it's useful information.

At any rate, I can't install it, since the antivirus is having fits. I'm sending the file to McAfee: my understanding is that they update their DATs when you send them false positives. So I should be able to install it soon.

That works for me, since I bought six other games on this D&D weekend special and I sure don't have time to play ALL those games in the next few days!
Same issue here...however, I was able to install the game by copying the config.exe file from Icewind Dale into the Icewind Dale II folder...the installer seemed to work fine then.

Good luck with that. AFAIK several people already tried that, McAfee and Avast having the most problems with GOG installers. There was no change.

That is a novel solution, but I don't have Icewind Dale 1 to try it with. :-(

I do have Mcafee, but Mcafee isn't complaining (though it did complain about ToEE, and that won't install either). The installer program itself is telling me it can't move config.exe.

Here is a screenshot of the error I get:

Maybe I'll try sending them chocolates.

Still haven't installed the game, but, hey, I have the first IWD to play while I wait, and BG and BGII. So plenty to keep me busy while I wait to see whether they update the DAT. Here's hoping.

My installer said exactly the same thing, but it turned out that it was because the installer had tried to install a file in the temp folder, McAfee thought it was a trojan and so deleted the file, and then the installer tried to move it from the temp folder and couldn't find it because it had been deleted. Then the installer quits.

Your screenshot is the same error I was getting when the installer quits. Check your McAfee logs, you might see the files being deleted there.

I decided to give Taruni's solution a try. It worked! Thank you, Taruni.

Rogue, maybe you can get a copy of just config.exe. Maybe GOG will let you have just that file.

That seems logical, I will try that and let everyone know.

You're welcome! Glad it worked for you :)

Maybe the config.exe file from Baldur's Gate would work too, I am not sure.

So I took the BGConfig.exe from my BG2 installation, and copied that in to the destination directory, and then renamed it to config.exe.

That seemed to do the trick! Woot!

Thanks everyone!
