I was able to install IWD2 by temporarily disabling the AV. Installation went well after that and the game runs fine.

But.... I re-enabled the AV (McAfee), and it promptly deleted the config.exe! It wouldn't take no for an answer.

Do I need the config file anymore? The game seems to run fine. I do have BG2.

You only need the config file if you want to change difficulty settings, graphic settings, etc.

Seriously though, I'd get a different antivirus program. McAfee really seems to be the shits, from what I've been reading.
I had this problem too, i thought it was weird because i could install bg2 just fine. but i disabled macafee real time scanning and it worked fine.

Taruni: Same issue here...however, I was able to install the game by copying the config.exe file from Icewind Dale into the Icewind Dale II folder...the installer seemed to work fine then.

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, I created a folder called Icewind Dale II, and copied the config.exe file from Icewind Dale into that. When I launched the installer afterwards, I set the installation path to the Icewind Dale II folder I'd just created.

Hope that helps! :)

This strategy worked like a charm. Thank you!
