I bought this way back on Steam, saw it on sale on GOG, and bought it again. Then I saw the bug with this achievement and wondered if I made a mistake buying it a second time. To me, achievement matters. If I know one achievement is bugged, I am less inclined to play the whole game, simply because I have so many great games that something like Homeworld RM doesn't stand out enough for me to overlook the defect. There are others who think the same. Homeworld RM's achievements give a convenient insight into how much people actually play. While about 13% of all Steam buyers finished finished HW1RM and 8% finished HW2RM. Only about 8% of GOG buyers finished HW1RM and 3% finished HW2RM.
Maybe more GOG buyer buy it as a back copy. I thinking having a DRM-free backup copy is still worth my money. However, as a rule, I expect to pay less to buy a back up or slightly defective copy. This is especially true if I pay full price, in which case I'd expect to pay way less or maybe expect a refund.
I am surprised that Gearbox didn't just go ahead and remove this achievement since apparently it's "impossible" to fix. I can appreciate a fix might be very difficult depending what is causing the problem. But surely it would take one of their programmers less than an hour to remove this one achievement.
If I were a more conspiratorial person, I'd suspect a conspiracy.
