Reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. I uninstalled the 2012/2013/2015 versions, then reinstalled both the x64 and x86 versions for those years.

Afterwords, game works fine. Annoying headache to be sure.

Not running under any circumstances, doesn't launch. Tried every suggestion in the support page and reinstalled the C++ redistributables. 3 hours lost and nothing.

Weird: This notebook runs even Lichdom smoothly.

Your config should run the game without any problems.
Did you installed both, the 32 bit and 64 bit VC++ redistributables from 2012, 2013 and 2015?

You could also try Dependencies, download and launch DependenciesGui.exe, drag and drop the game's executable inside the app and look if there are any .dll files missing that are required by the game.

Bingo! "Dependencies" showed some .dll's missing.

The game runs on my home computer with Windows 7. There was installed all VC++ redistributables: 2012, 2013 and 2015 (x86 and x64). The notebook already had 2012 from another game, but GOG Deserts of Kharak comes bundled only with 2015, I've thought that he needed only this one.

Installed 2013 x86 and x64. Worked!

The game should come bundled with all VC++ needed to run. I'll tell GOG support about this.

I was about to install the game in Linux with Wine (seems to work).

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Hopefully your support ticket will lead to success and GOG will fix that, so players can install and play the game without having a headache in the first.
I have the same problem too.

I send support ticket to GOG.com team for their help. They says I need to run Galaxy Client, then click repair button to repair KoD. Then I need to reinstall Visual C++ 2015 x86 and x64 (they gave me both link to download).

I am not familiar with this procedures. This is new to me, and concern. If I keep having problem with reinstalling Visual C++ 2015, I will have to uninstall Visual C++ 2017, then uninstall Visual C++ 2015. I will have to restart my computer then reinstall both Visual C++ 2015 and 2017 (starting with C++ 2015 first), then restart my computer few times. This could affect to my brand new gaming pc that I don't know about it.

I recently bought it from Best Buy online, in hoping to give my old gaming pc some much need check up, repairs, and maintenance.

I am not sure if I should go with this procedures. What should I do? Is there any simple step-by-steps I could follow, so I don't make any mistakes?

You don't have to uninstall the 2017 version. But for this game you need the 2013 and 2015 package and maybe the 2012 one as well. Just download and install all the packages below and the game should work:

Visual C++ 2012 (x64)
Visual C++ 2012 (x86)
Visual C++ 2013 (x64)
Visual C++ 2013 (x86)
Visual C++ 2015 (x64)
Visual C++ 2015 (x86)

You'll need those redistributables for a lot of games anyway.
So the first thing to do when you set up a gaming pc is to install Visual C++ (All versions) and DirectX 9.

Is there any certain folder I need to install for both 64 and 86?

You can't select the install folder. Just doubleclick the files and follow the instructions.

Do I have to uninstall Visual C++, then reinstall?

No, just install all of them.
Just as some additional feedback, I also had to install the VC++ redistributables; I installed both the x86 and x64 2012 versions.
