Is GOGWrap supposed to launch the game? I'm trying it but it just hangs. I've also tried running DOSBox directly but then it complains that it can't find the CD drive.
This question / problem has been solved by deorenimage
I just installed and it worked for me. I know that's not really helpful, but I'm just confirming that it's working for someone else.
Ah ha! The wrapper takes a command off the command line. (GOGHOMM1 in this case.) If you're going to be putting this one on a USB drive like me your best bet is to either write a batch file or copy the shortcut off your start menu. Now to figure out how to make it run in a window....
Edit: Well, that was easy. If you want the game to run in a window instead of full screen pop open dosboxHOMM1.conf in notepad (copy it first just to be safe) and change the line "fullscreen=true" to "fullscreen=false" and you'll be set.

So you got the game to launch for you then? Also, did you mean to make my post as resolving your question?
Yeah, your post made me realize I was doing something dumb. The resolution was "Look at the shortcut the installer put in your start menu." I was getting ahead of myself trying to launch it from its own folder.
That makes sense. Thanks. :)
when I launch the game, it says I need more drive space to be able to launch the game. I have 28 gigs of space. I am not sure what is happening. How do I get this game to launch??
I have windows 7. I have this game on disc and when I try running it, a black screen just comes up, i have to run it in my xp mode to get it to play. I downloaded it off of GOG thinking it would work and the same things happened. any clue why?

Unfortunately I have the same problem. Bought this game yesterday from GOG, installed without problems on my Win7 (Home Premium 64) and I can't get it to work. I tried different tricks like running 'as administrator' and in 'compatibility mode' to no avail - after launching the game I get a black screen and nothing happens from now on... At this point I'm forced to reboot my PC manually (alt tab doesn't work, win+L doesn't work, ctrl+shift+esc doesn't work).
It's really very annoying, I wanted to play HoMM3 again so much...
Me too. luckily for me i can run widows xp mode and play it still..its just glitchy

Well, I have Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64 bit) installed on my acer laptop, and it certainly plays on it. The game will crash randomly every now and again, but a quick restart (of the game, and not windows :) ) will get me back up and going.
It would be nice if someone from GOG would comment on this thread to shed some light.
Not sure why it would run for me and not you. I have an amd cpu and ati mobility 1250 for gfx...perhaps your video doesn't support it.
i have windows vista. it installs the game just fine. when i go to launch; it tries too then crashes and i get the blue screen. restart. it does this every time. what sould i do? thanks.
Edit:

Never mind, sorry.

I'm not sure exactly how to fix that by itself, but if you grab HoMM3 HD that should be able to negate that message, plus making the game better overall. ;)
