Is GOGWrap supposed to launch the game? I'm trying it but it just hangs. I've also tried running DOSBox directly but then it complains that it can't find the CD drive.

sycoslayer: I have windows 7. I have this game on disc and when I try running it, a black screen just comes up, i have to run it in my xp mode to get it to play. I downloaded it off of GOG thinking it would work and the same things happened. any clue why?
I have exact same problem and since I don't see any solutions, I would like to bring that topic again. I updated my card and install DX10 as recommended and run it (as admin) in all possible modes (WinXP, Win98, 95 even..) and still nothing. Any ideas?
I installed game but when i open it it says i need CD you can only play multiplayer mode.
Please help...

I have no idea what game you are trying to run and which operating system you're using (telepaths are on vacation) but make sure you have latest microsoft DirectX installed. You should download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
scuse me . the game is heroes 3 and i'm on winows 7 64bits

1. If you're using 2 monitors, disconnect secondary monitor and try starting the game on primary monitor.
2. Try setting the screen resolution for your monitor to 800x600 16-bit (Hi-Color).
3. If you don't want to change resolution look at HD mod: http://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/
Same issue - black screen and nothing else in Windows 8, forced to reboot. Tried all possible compatibility combinations, tried using imagecfg.exe utility; and yes, I tried the 32-bit windowed patch; still nothing! Did anyone had any luck playing Heroes Chronicles (GOG.com edition) at all on Windows 8 with a Radeon card?

System specs:

AMD A-Series Quad-Core A8-4500M 1.9 GHz (4 MB Cache)
4 GB SDRAM
AMD Radeon HD 7640G
Windows 8 Pro (64-bit)

Thanks in advance for your response!

P.S. This issue should not be marked "Solved"

Finally solved, however I had to abandon the idea of playing the GOG.com version. It just doesn't work for my configuration:

AMD A-Series Quad-Core A8-4500M 1.9 GHz (4 MB Cache)
4 GB SDRAM
AMD Radeon HD 7640G
Windows 8 Pro (64-bit)

The solution was getting a Russian version (from rutor.org) of the game that had an HD patch on it and all Heroes Chronicles games ran in windowed mode by default. By pressing F4 I was able to switch to full screen mode. I have no idea what that particular edition has that GOG.com doesn't, but I am lucky that I speak Russian!:) Hopefully, there will be a fix issued so that the English version of Heroes Chronicles plays on the latest (although not the best) Windows OS.
Possibly solved it for Windows 8 Pro (64-bit):

I have been playing a Russian version of Heroes Chronicles. The edition I had launched every chapter in windowed mode by default and by pressing F4 I was able to switch to full screen mode.

It worked perfectly for the first two chapters (Warriors and Underworld), however, when I tried to switch Master of the Elements to full screen mode, I started getting the "black screen no controls" situation again (the same one I had with the GOG.com copy when all I could do was use the "reset" button on my PC).

I used "regedit" to find the differences between the chapters' system settings and found out that my firewall (Comodo) was treating the first two chapters as "system applications", while the rest of the chapters had "custom settings", probably blocking certain functions of the game.

All I had to do was switch my firewall settings, tagging every chapter as a "system application" and voila! fully functioning full screen Heroes Chronicles on windows 8! I haven't tried it with my GOG.com copy, but pretty sure that it should work (in case of the "black screen").

Same problem.

Solved with installing HOMM3HD (linked posted earlier this thread). Must have something to do with monitor resolution I think.
I can't launch the game on my computer. The GOG downloader is not working
I am having an issue launching the game. This is my first experience with gog and I already want my money back. I had to download it twice. I have tried all the different compatibility modes, and none of them seem to work. I have changed graphics settings and tried all my screen resolutions. I just get a windows error message stating HOMM 2 has stopped working . and then it closes. Any help from the community?

With so little to go on, probably not. There are 6 different releases of Windows you might be using (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10), and all but one of them come in two architectures (32 bit and 64 bit). Since you set your location to "US" and your English seems good, we can probably assume you are using an American English version of Windows. Beyond that, we would be guessing.

Generally, for problems that lead to a game crash, you should contact GOG support. If you contact them soon enough after purchase, and after following their advice you still cannot get the game to work, then you may be able to get them to approve a refund. If you ask the community for help, and we cannot solve your problem, then you are stuck. You are welcome to seek community help in parallel to the official support channel, of course. See https://www.gog.com/support/website_help/money_back_guarantee for details.

If you still want to pursue community assistance, please start by telling us what version of Windows you are using, what version of Heroes 2 you are trying to play, and any steps you have tried to solve the problem. Check that you are current on system updates. I have Heroes 2 Gold working fine here with minimal configuration.
