Blopagol: This is a great find!
Was going to post it, but the thread was already in place.

HoMM3 HD 2.65f version is out: http://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/download

Working perfectly for me, Win 7 64 bits, geforce drivers v260.99.
So this works out of the box with gog version and win7? Great :) And I've installed homm3 in virtualbox coz It wouldn't run on w7 :) Thanks.

MaximPolulyakh: Does anyone know something like this for HOMM II?
Well there is which can run in a higher resolution and show more of the map at once, among many other features. See here for more information. =)

Have fun! :-)

Best regards,
Steven.

> The one link provided above and later in this sentence clearly has everything EVERYTHING needed.
Step One: Install GOG version of HOMM3 Complete.
Step Two: Using link above, click "Download" from the left column and download "Main Files". This is the Hi-Res data for the mod.
Step Three: Unpack the "Main Files" into your installed GOG version HOMM3 Complete folder. This means you have to remember where you installed it or what the path is.
Step Four: Using link above, download "GoG_Complete" file.
Step Five: Unpack the contents of that file to the same place as in Step Three.
Step Six: Run Heroes3HDSetup from the HOMM3 folder, choose resolution, apply, and launch.

Looks like the latest version of the patch makes installation even simpler.

Anyway, it seems to work well. (haven't played enough to see if it makes Homm3 unreliable). I noticed that the GOG installation uses the GOGWRAP program to start Homm3. I don't see how to use GOGWRAP to start the HD version. Should GOGWRAP be used?

----- update as of 2/25/2011 ---------

No problems not using GOGWRAP. Been playing a lot on a win7-64bit system and have had no troubles (after applying the patch to prevent crashes on multi-core systems)

Great find, thanks!

Gonna play at 1280x720 - my 1080p monitor scales it pretty well, and text isn't too small.
I also really appreciate that this mod alters the music playback from 22Khz to 44Khz! Me is very happy ^_^

There is also a mod around that makes XXL and XXXL maps. I don't know how well they work since i haven't tried it.

schmea: Could you do us a favour and give us a step by step as to how you got it set up? How to install, what files you used etc. I for one can't get it to work... it keeps telling me I need the CD after installing the HD patch. Thanks!

I don't know if perhaps I'm being a little dumb, but the website no longer looks like this (which I suppose is reasonable given that this was last edited 5 months ago as of this posting). I tried running the latest version (3.91) on that site, which actually does have a dropdown menu for the GOG release, but I can't get it to run without it asking me for the CD. Has anyone else had any problems with this, or could someone perhaps link an earlier version?

I'm running H3 on Windows 7, incidentally.

I didn't have that issue and am also running it on Win7. Have you tried running it in adminstrator mode?

My version of the setup is 2.6.1. and v 3.2 of the main program. Got it at the end of January and the setup program does make a reference to the GOG version (no cd).

Also, assuming you have a multi-core processor, you'll have to patch the program with imagecfg or it'll crash all the time. The thread discussion how to patch (pretty easy) is here

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/heroes_of_might_and_magic/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_keeps_crashing_in_win7

I wound up patching both the original and the HD version of the exe file. Since I've done that I've had ZERO crashes.

Hey guys, I'm new to GOG so bare with me. It seems like the website has changed and now I'm only able to download one file, which isn't an .exe

Can anyone direct me towards what I'm supposed to do in order to get this mod up and running? Thanks! :D

Based on what I see on the webpage now I'd dl and install the 2.90f package, then dl the two updates - 2.91u and 2.92u. After dling those two just unpack them (2.91u first, then 2.92u) into the game folder.
-------

the changelog

http://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/changelog

tells you what they changed since the 2.60 version (which I'm using)

OH, I see now, I just assumed they were all the same thing, I hadn't realized that 2.9 was a whole package and the subsequent files patched versions. Thanks! :D
So basically this will only work with the WoG expansion not the orig HOMM 3 stuff? (Tho I own a real cd, so guess I could, but that defeats the purpose)

Any news if GoG will maybe try to integrate this somehow? Im playing HOMM3 on my netbook which is perfect for older games cause of the res. But on my Rig.. playing HOMM 3 on a 32in screen.. just doesnt work.. its too small.

The HD patch works great on the plain old Homm3 you get from GOG. I don't have the WoG but am running the HD patch.
Oh ok! So they dont have that require cd issue anymore? Would be cool. Tho at work on netbook been playing homm3, just started homm5 on my rig at home, feels odd lol.
Yeah, it works fine on the standard GoG version. I haven't modified my install at all and the HD mod works fine.
