Okay, very simple one this. Very simple or simply impossible. Either way, not much work involved.

So I start GC2. I get a momentary black screen and then it crashes out to desktop again.

I've tried adjusting the compatibility mode to just about any relevant configuration. Hell I even tried Server 2003.

I would try setting it to only using one core, but that one second it's running simply isn't long enough for that. So I tried Runfirst instead and that doesn't work either.

So, what blindingly obvious solution am I missing here?

System specs:
Windows 7 64
Phenom II x4 3Ghz
4 GB DDR2
GeForce GTX 260 (fully up to date drivers)
Asus Xonar DS sound card

Any tool, or setup or something similar that lets you fiddle with the settings before launching the game ?

You could also check if DEP or your AV aren't getting in the way of the game launching properly.

The only executables are the game itself and the uninstaller. All config is done in game if the first game is anything to go by.

AV's definitely not at fault and the FW was set to game mode. Not sure about DEP. But then the application did start. It's just that it didn't last more than a second.

Well, look into the DEP thing just in case.

I found this, it' a long shot and the poster doesn't really explains how/where it was missing, but, well, sometimes long shots pay off.

Sometimes the long shots really do pay off!

Note to others: if you don't trust it, you can extract the fonts from the exe manually if you open it as an archive using 7zip.

Thanks! I was worried I'd be adding another game to my 'not working at the moment' pile.

Ah, yes, thet's definitely the 'no fun' pile when it comes to games.

Have a few on that pile myself, most annoying one being Gorky17.

It was Nvidia cards that one refused to work with, wasn't it? I seem to remember that being the reason I chose to avoid it.

Yes, but there was some indication that the problems could be just with newer Nvidia cards

I bought in in the hope that it would work on my laptop which has a pretty old Nvidia card, but it doesn't work there either.

Pretty much the one black spot on my gog shelf, very annoying.

Unfortunately I've also got problems with Sacrifice and Messiah. Messiah simply doesn't like Win7. It worked fine in XP so I'm hoping GOG will take care of that in due course. Sacrifice also worked fine. But I think that a Nvidia driver update is what's causing the problems there.

I wouln't be surprised about Sacrifice, Nvidia drivers often fix stuff but also break stuff :|

I haven't checked on Messiah lately, but i have the impression i somehow got it working on win7 without too may problems. I'll take a lok at my install so see if it still works or if there's something wrong with it.

My problems were massive slowdown and the map and models disappearing (leaving smoke, lasers and the like still visible) as soon as gameplay commenced. Sound is unaffected. The bit before Bob hit runs and displays properly.

Even if your problems weren't the same, the solution may still help.

Yeah, it was fine at some point but i just checked my install and i got all of those as soon as the cutscene ended and some hedious input lag aswell.

But disabling T&L via the -x trigger on the shortcut solves all that, i just tried it, and apart from the cutscenes being off center the graphical problems and input lag go away.

It's not a perfect solution but at least the game is playable

Or give the glide wrapper a try. This post outlines both ways to go about it.

I'll have to give those a try, thanks again! I'll let you know if either work.

So once more I go hunting for the backup disc...
