Ok for a new player to the Gothic series and since I'm playing with the Raven expansions installed (Hard as hell)

Which job should I pick and which guild should I join? I thought about Templar, if only for the armor and for the maximum pleasure of the fighting mechanics but Mage and Archery are always more fun in these type of games, but I've heard Mage is usually for the advanced players, and I'm not advanced... Only experienced in RPGs
