Shiek2005: Having trouble in the arena fight quest, any pointers? i'm lvl 4 and think i did most of the quests i could find in the Old Camp...
avatar
Radarkasten: Have you done all the quests in the other camps too? Fisk might give you another quest, after you`re done with Thours` quest
Just in the old camp, a couple in the Sleepers Camp.

Just got to level 6, admitted into the old camp and got some decent armor, the best weapon i could find and i'm FINALLY able to move around more freely, at least without having to fear everything that moves :D
Anyone have any advice for doing the Minecrawler Nest quest? i'm lvl 7.

And is investing in ore/skill points into ranged skills/weapons as a secondary weapon very useful for a melee oriented character in the long run?

Thanks!

Where are you stuck exactly? You have to find a gear wheel from an old destroyed machine and give it to Ian and find 2-3 Templars to help you.

Try not to get surronded by the Crawlers and maybe go for a retreat and let the boys at the Exit help you. You can also use 2 Minecrawler mutation scrolls, one to get to the Queen, kill her with a Fire rain and another one to get out safely. You can even take the eggs and spare the fight with the Queen, but you won`t get promoted in your Guild then. If you want to have XP you can kill the Crawlers later or prepare for a pretty tough battle.

The large Crossbow is a real beast and enemies have less protection against it than they have against melee weapons. But I`d concentrate on the Melee weapons first and use Crossbows only for seperating the enemy groups. Later you can have fun with them, but maybe you want to go for Mana instead. It depends on your prefered style ;)

I was referring on some sort of advice for going about this quest, i pretty much just got it and hiked over to the mines and found that it's almost impossible to take on more then 2 minecrawlers at a time.

So your saying that the fight with the minecrawler queen can be skipped entirely by just getting the eggs and getting out?

I have no idea about the broken machine and what do you mean by "getting 2-3 templars to help"? just luring the enemies to em or something else?

Finally, my question towards ranged weapons comes from not coming accross a single one in the 6+hrs i've been playing. Maybe their just sold in the New Camp which i haven't been to...

And should i be worried that i have no idea what a guild is? lol edit: nevermind, the guilds are essentially the camp then. Got it.

I just tried to play, and got killed within the first few minutes. Very hard, dang combat! :P It looks very good, though, so I'll keep trying.

I ment that you need 2-3 Templars to make Asghan allowing you to open that gate. I think you`ve already done it.

you can skip that all and just get the eggs for the invocation, but then you won`t get a better armor. I`d try to kill the Queen and avoid the other Crawlers. I`ve never done it that way before but it should do the trick. I don`t know if you have to kill all Crawlers in order to get promoted, but the Quest was always finished only after killing the Queen.

They will be avalaible later. Some enemies carry such beasts, so they can be obtained for free :p

In the first Mintues you should try to avoid all bigger than Scanvengers, Meatbugs or Molerats ;) and try not to take on too many. It`s a great game and really worth it ;)

And there are a few OK early weapons about close to the "dumping pond" :) that are within your strength limits. Don't let "rusty sword" fool you.
Fantasysci5, It is insanely difficult at the beginning, but follow the advice in this thread and you'll be fine. I just try to think of it as a realistic RPG, because in most lvl1 chars can take some enemies. Not in real life they wouldn't! Gothic is relatively hardcore but stick at it and the mechanics make sense!
Just started playing the game today myself. I have only finished Gothic 3 and Risen and barely even touched G1-G2 before because of the steep learning curve and mouse-less interface, but I might actually be getting the hang of it this time.

Quest-wise I've just qualified for Old Camp admission (athough I need to gain one more level to actually get in), and I was just wondering whether there's any disadvantage, allegience-related penalty etc. to doing as many quests as possible for the other camps as well? I'm thinking primarily of the way Gothic 3 handled factions; in which you benefitted greatly from working closely with both the humans and the orcs for as long as possible (only saving the "let's liberate this town" quests for last) even though it didn't make much sense from a narrative perspective.

No penalty at all, and it's actually recommended in order to get the most experience. Just be sure to not deliver the list Diego gives you to Lares, as that puts you on the path to joining the New Camp and closes off your ability to join the Old Camp (assuming you want to join the Old Camp and not the New Camp).

From what I remember you can deliver the list and still join the Old Camp; it's only once you return to Lares after delivering the list that that qualifies you for joining the New Camp.
Hello guys, I just started playing Gothic 2. I've never played Gothic 1 nor 3, so I have one question about armors. How do i pick them? I know it's kind of silly but I bought clothes from the farmer and I've found nothing in my inventory. Is it autoequip? Manual is silent....Thanks.

When you buy the clothes, he tells you they're in a chest in his house. You have to go and get them. They will be in your inventory and you have to equip them.

I see, now that was a really silly question from me. Thanks anyway.
There's actually one specific disadvantage in joining the Swamp Camp: you won't be able to learn the higher-tier magic.
I don't remember the details, since it has been 7 or so years since I've last played this gem of a game, but basically you don't want to join the Cult if you want to become a mage: the Old Camp is arguably the best when learning magic, although you will be able to get to the highest circle of magic in the New Camp as well.
If you want to go archer or melee, there really isn't much difference between the three.
