mooferus: In case anyone else encounters it in the same situation, I ran into this issue when running GOG Galaxy on a machine I'm connected to via remote desktop. As soon as I was on the machine locally, the error doesn't happen. Not sure why this matters, but something in Galaxy seems to be incapable of working over a remote desktop connection.
So glad I read to the bottom of this thread. Thank you!

mantha: If you are here because you have this error occurs MAC OS X version, this maybe a possible solution:

In my case, I have multiple user accounts and noticed that if other account is logged into the system before I run GOG Galaxy it crashes with the Connection error.

The solution is close all other logged sessions and then open it only in your profile.

Hope it helps someone.

Kind regards!

I just went through troubleshooting this error and from reading many threads about it, I think multiple scenarios can cause it.

In my case, the problem was that I was launching GOG Galaxy via RDP. When launching GOG via my Windows 10 laptop console, the error didn't occur.

Interestingly, if I launch GOG Galaxy via the console, then close it, and relaunch via RDP, the error doesn't occur....this behavior persists until a reboot.
When this error pops up just don't click OK and move the window sowmewhere. GOG Galaxy works fine even when this error appears, just don't click OK to close this and Galaxy will remain open.

SulturGoG: There is a potential solution but it is not planned for any of the closest updates at the moment. Sorry you won't be able to remote into GOG Galaxy in the near future. Hope you can still enjoy it nonetheless
Really? It is 2021 but nothing changes.

briandamage: When I try to run GOG Galaxy 2.0 while connected to my computer via Microsoft the remote desktop MSTSC client I get the following error message:
"Connection to Communication service was lost and could not be restored! GOG Galaxy will now shutdown."

I used to get this error message in the 1.x client as well so I'm disappointed to see this bug persisting in the major revision. Is there any plan to resolve this longstanding issue?

why is this not fixed yet?
I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro 14" (2021) on macOS 13 Ventura. And like others here in the topic I don't have any other accounts on my MacBook except my own as admin. The problem still persist... :(
The problem in my case turned out to be the VPN connection. Even adding the application to the exceptions didn't help, the app only started working after turning off the VPN.
