With the end of 2013 upon us, it's time for reflection; what went wrong this year, what went right this year, what do we hope to improve next year, and of course most importantly: what was your favourite game of the year?

I thought it would be more apt for these forums to look at it a little differently and ask the question of what is your personal game of the year, regardless of release date. Just a game which you played through for the first time in 2013.

I played quite a few games which I really enjoyed this year, both old and (relatively) new, and I'd have a tough choice to make were it not simplified by 2013 being the year of my first expedition into Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I now consider it among my favourite games overall, not just for the year.

So what was your favourite not necessarily released in 2013 game of 2013?

Well, um, it's not really a game of the year if it wasn't released this year, is it?

Anyway, I'll stick to my favourite game that I played this year that was also released this year, which happens to be BioShock Infinite.
Probably Dishonoured. Or Borderlands 2.

Also Tower of Guns (Playing the alpha. it is going to be released in 2014, so it is not a 2013 game :))

Of the classics? Im not sure, maybe Settlers IV.

Hmm well, I mean of the games people have played through this year, regardless of release date - just as a personal favourite from 2013.

I've seen the threads around other forums but honestly I didn't really relate well to any of them, as I realized I haven't really played many games which were released in 2013, if any. I thought maybe there would be others around these forums in particular in the same boat.
vampire bloodlines is indeed an amazing game, if you havnt played it with the restoration mods then youre in for a treat of a second playthrough.
For me this year, i think it might be portal 2. I recently played it in the last month and it was both hilarious and an excellent game.
I was a little late to the party, but The Walking Dead was my game of the year.
Shadow Warrior.

Yeah. I heard many times - I was actually gifted the game on these forums by the very generous nresteiner and he mentioned about the patch when he gifted it to me. I installed the patch but something went awry and it turned out I played through without it, I think maybe I hadn't turned off steam auto updating and it overwrote it without my noticing.

Regardless, I intend to play through as a Malkavian sometime in the new year fully patched up!
I discovered GOG towards the end of last year, so there are so many possibilities to choose from! I'd have to say either Eador: Genesis, or Baldur's Gate 2, though, each of which I played through for the first time.

oh hm yeah i didnt play the steam version, i imagine that might be tricky to patch. And malkavian is by far the most fun clan to play!
Thankfuly I played The Cat Lady in 2012... so for 2013 I can, without any doubt, say: Deadly Premonition.

Novotnus: Deadly Premonition.
Just reading some about this game, I missed it completely somehow, despite it being a genre I generally enjoy and it sounding like something I'd be interested in. I'll have to check it out in the new year.
hm! yeah i hadnt heard of deadly premonition either. Looks interesting.

Deadly Premonition looks like it's right up my alley. Unfortunately my backlog of games puts me playing it sometime in the year 2018. On the bright side, by then it should only be a couple of dollars.

Then again, I'd really like to play that game......
There were several, but I have to say, Lone Survivor did it for me. It's basically Silent Hill 2, but in 2D .
