gbaz69: I tried to keep up with the books, honestly, but the super long timeline sort of threw me, 30,000+ years is a lot to digest.

Gaunathor: You only need to read Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, and God Emperor of Dune (Messiah is pretty mediocre by itself, but necessary for Children).
Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune are interesting, but not that great. Especially when compared to Children, which is, in my opinion, the best of the novels.

Stay clear of the books written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. They make the Star Wars prequels look like Oscar-material.
I trongly disagree...
To me, chapterhouse:dune is one (if not THE) best in the series.
I found that children of dune was pretty weak...
To each his own i guess.

I'll agree on that last sentence though, those are so bad...you wonder how a son can make this to his father's legacy...

Thing is, they're actually okay if judged on their own. It's just that when they're compared to the heights of Frank Herbert's work, they fall way, way short.

Same with the Star Wars prequels. If they weren't being compared to the original trilogy by anyone who's seen it, they wouldn't seem near half as bad as they do.
