gbaz69: I tried to keep up with the books, honestly, but the super long timeline sort of threw me, 30,000+ years is a lot to digest.

Gaunathor: You only need to read Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, and God Emperor of Dune (Messiah is pretty mediocre by itself, but necessary for Children).
Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune are interesting, but not that great. Especially when compared to Children, which is, in my opinion, the best of the novels.

Stay clear of the books written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. They make the Star Wars prequels look like Oscar-material.
I think I read a summary of a book or short story, where ancient 'humans' or whatever, came back to the known universe (or was it galaxy, i forget).. with their technology and were able to FTL without spice.
Anyone know what book this is in regard too?
(I know the Ix can navagate without spice, but im not sure if the Ix were the race that left for a very long time, then came back..because the Ix technology was used through out the entire time line if I recall correctly)

ps. sorry to talk about books and not the video game, at least it is the same franchise.

That's Heretics of Dune.

GothikOrk: A Fallout style RPG set on Arrakis would be awesome. Or maybe Dune Emperor 2. Anyone got any other ideas?
I always wanted to play as a sandworm and lo and behold, there is a game for that: DEATHWORM!

Actually I like God-Emperor and Heretics best. For me they have a lot of philosophical depth (they discover a lot of Leto II's writings in Heretic). Chapterhouse - you can feel Frank Herbert wanted to put an end to the story.
Messiah is like a bridge, a filler between Dune and Children.
And I actually liked Children least - dunno why, it just wouldn't speak to me in the way the other did.
Just not another goddamn RTS, the Dune universe is so diverse and intricate you could make any storydriven game with it, not just another boring RTS
Angry Birds Dune

Better than nothing, right? :)

Lego Dune. All bricks are the same color. :-)
As long as there are Sandworms, I'm happy.

For all your sandworm needs:

This game is awesome (for a browser game), I don't know where else you can kill helicopters with a sandworm.
They even have a generic leaderbord with purposely preset low scores so that when you get a 'high score' you can feel proud of yourself...still, it's a fun game!

GothikOrk: Anyone remember the Dune PC games? Just looked it up and the last Dune game was made in 2001. I think there is enough of a fan base for the setting, and possibly a new generation to interest, for a new game. I'd love to see what they could do with today's technology.

A Fallout style RPG set on Arrakis would be awesome. Or maybe Dune Emperor 2. Anyone got any other ideas?
Dune 2000 was the first RTS I ever played. I would totally buy a an HD remake of that. But an open world RPG is a great idea for this property. I just wonder how many 16-25 year olds are familiar with the work.

Dune 2000 already was the HD-remake of Dune 2. You're too young :-P

Funny! So, I'm guessing chances are slim for the superHD, this time we really mean it version....

The real way to expericience dune is in a tank filled with spice gas. Beats holodeck anytime.

If Brian Herbert is whoring out the stuff, he could at least give the thumbs up to another game.

Exactly. There is no good reason to be against more Dune universe video games. More money for him, more recognition for his father's universe and more happy gamers.
