You should buy it, because CD Projekt Red doesn't disappoint the people. They make a few bad decisions once in a while, but generally they are currently scandal-free in a stricken industry, where even classic companies are busy grabbing their customers cash with lazy work. Sure, some people won't like every new approach. But they deliver and work a lot at it.

It's also refreshing to have something to go back to, which has not a pg-13 rating or sth. similar.

See this: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=31097

I can't stand it when mature topics are marketed to children.

The developers weren't afraid to change the core of the gameplay of its predecessor. Still, this is again based on the book-series but plays after them. Thus the environments are already much more fleshed out than in a media. It is said, that Witcher 2 doesn't spoil the books.

The graphics are good and a few very harsh difficulty levels also cater to the people who are looking for a challenge. You don't find permadeath often these days.

The bad things: the environment is not as open as it looks. That was done out of necessity. The different plots touch each other once a while. A permanent ability to visit all other locations would require too much dynamic in story-telling. The inventory is small and Geralt is not always listening to your commands and decides get his sword out. Targetting enemies in a crowd can be problematic because it is working based on your view.

Apathy1989: 4. Potion drinking before battles is unfriendly to most people, as they feel its a waste whenever a timer ticks down when not in combat. Takes a while to get over it.
God, people suck. Yeah, drinking potions in the middle of a sword fight is so much cooler. :P

Haven't played TW2 myself yet but if the potion mixing itself is anything like in TW1 then collecting all the ingredients is an enjoyable part of the game. Personally I liked memorizing where to look for different ingredients and then go collecting flowers or hunting monsters in order to stock up on potions for future encounters. Adds a lot of depth to the experience IMHO.

The second game even expands upon the entire concept by adding lures, which ... Well... Lure monsters of certain type to them. You can place a few traps, a lure amongst them, and sooner of later, a wild monsters will appear. Cool idea that.
Because I liked the atmosphere in Witcher 1 and the screen shots of 2 were so awesome... I got it for xbox and I don't ever regret doing it!
Haven't played it much. Not good at sticking to any RPGs and this one is no exception. But I think one thing would be obvious:

The high-ish system requirements have already been mentioned. So why not go with
"Because 'Will it run Crysis' is getting dated. Most PCs can run Crysis. But will it run The Witcher 2?"
Of course! THE MUSIC

And BUMP
There are tits. Just mentioning that must be enough to make a few people buy the game because they hadn't heard that before and because that's how tits work.

Most importantly, this! :P

Sadly, I'm still only at the beginning of chapter 2 of the first game, so I can't really say much about TW2! But if the atmosphere and the "mystery" stays the same, it's a great game to own and play!
