Old games? they are getting pretty thin.

Trilarion: So what do people think, will the top 20 of the current wishlist come here in the foreseeable future or is what we have already more or less the maximum of what we can get?

I will be pessimistic until proven wrong. For example this week there hasn't any really new classic game come here.

langurmonkey: You mean, will you buy DRM free indie games on here for 1.5-3 times as much as elsewhere. Yeah, you are paying more for some GOGs but they are DRM free.
avatar
Trilarion: Maybe not many people are buying Indie games here - we don't know.
They must be selling really well. There are loads of indie games being added here, and Hotline Miami was the best selling game for this week (or however long the current best sellers list is).

I'd like to see more newer, commercial games (like Alan Wake, Riddick etc).

Considering the top 20 consists of System Shock, LucasArts games, Blizzard Games and NOLF...

There are other classics from the wish list that they can get however.

That's a point but it's still not sure that Indies really sell well here. Maybe Hotline Miami is an exception. The first Indies that came here are maybe already forgotten and do not sell a lot anymore while the classics might sell for a longer period well. And if you can get Indies cheaper somewhere else...

I agree that GOG might not be the best place for indies currently, but my thoughts are that if they didn't sell well, there would be no reason to open the floodgates to indies. And at the moment, we have had alot of them.

Surely if they weren't working out, GOG wouldn't be adding so many.

The indies that came out off the ass-end of the indie bundles were quickly forgotten, because everyone already had them. The 'new' indies have more or less all done time in the topsellers' list.

The reason why the topsellers are full of Interplay games at present should be blatantly obvious.

That is a good argument in the long run but not in the short run. They are adding Indies for half a year now, it's still like an experiment. But experiments can fail. Let's see if in one year they are still adding Indies at this rate.

Also GamersGate are also adding these Indies and even more games (and many of the "more games" are kind of crappy) but they said at some point that most of their games have only little impact on their earnings and vice versa.

My guess is that with high priced AAAs reluctant to go DRM free and classics not being available in large numbers Indies are the only option to go, even if it turns out, they aren't so sellable.
The Question would be. What reason is there to NOT at indie games?

Too tough competition and small market size maybe. I'm only interested in knowing if the move was successful.

langurmonkey: Where can you get cheaper games that are DRM free? Not at Steam. Do you need Desura to run the games you purchased from them? If yes, then those indie games are not DRM free too.
Many Desura games can be downloaded directly from the website and run DRM free (Bunny Must Die). Others require the client (EvilQuest).

Crosmando: We need one of these threads every week, just to keep GOG on their toes.
I'd say every two weeks. ;)
