I feel the same about snails. I mean, snails, octopuses, calamars, and even frog legs, are completely awesome, taste-wise (I don't eat frog legs because horrible leftists hippies have managed to cast a doubt about the decency of their production process BUT gastronomy-wise they are terrific). However, all of these are conceptually horrendous to many people.

Well, Mary Douglas would have a say on that, but, still. I'm always surprised by people's reactions to these foods.

I would have to consider it the worst food I've eaten. I've tried it two different ways:

Plain (I don't know how it was cooked if it even was)
Takoyaki

The first bite of the Takoyaki almost burned my tongue off. And the taste was not good after it cooled down. The plain was like chewing on a rubbery ball.

Being from Philadelphia, I find it amusing that every sandwich shop across the US has a "Philly Cheesesteak" yet they are never even close to authentic.

I'm trying to remember the worst food I've ever had, but in the meantime I'll tell you about the worst candy I've ever had. It was some form of very low budget Arabic candy. It looked like a small white bar (wrapped in the kind of wrapping you would expect from cheap chewing gum). The taste of it was similar to that of inhaling second hand cigarette smoke with your mouth, only a lot stronger, and dryer. So I guess eating that candy might well have been the closest thing to licking an ashtray that I've ever done (as I would imagine that it would neither taste nor feel all that dissimilar).

Two week old fried chicken since it's the only thing I've ever eaten that made me physically ill (I had forgotten how old it was at the time). Sorry it's not as interesting but I choose "Stuff that tries to kill me." over "Food that makes me spit it back out."

"Chunchules"

In Chile, it's a dish made with roasted or boiled bovine (or pig) intestines and spices... It's kind of gross, but if it is well made, it doesn't taste so bad. But most likely I will never eat it again (:P)

It's just the basics for me, Brussel Sprouts. Also, had a Korean Sushi Roll that had so much fish sauce on it that it just made my eyes water and I gagged. I haven't tried any other sushi roll since.

I'll also second Taco Bell Ground Beef is disgusting.

Are you kidding? That tool was like the Swiss Army Knife in usefulness! And didn't you use to put plastic bags into the kit, thus keeping it clean at all times? I probably would've rather not eat than not use those bags - decades worth of other people eating from those kits, some probably even pissing in them too...*shivers*

I do agree though, that military (field) food has probably been the worst I've eaten too, mostly because of the extremely bland taste that was often the case. Unless you're hungry, it's 2 a.m and the temperature is a freezing -25 C, everything tastes like heaven then.

I don't know if the hotel are lying or the fish supplier, since they always being passed on as "white tuna".

The first time I suffered from it, I actually have to live my day with a towel wrapped around - which need to be thrown away.

The second time, due to I eat a lot of "White tuna" since there is not much food left at the buffet, I have to throw a swivel chair away. I wanted to fart (and felt like it) but I think I just become oil pump that time. Sigh.
