Is it worth the 15$? What is it's gameplay like? Is it easy or difficult? ...Or should I get Penumbra + Gabriel knight 2 instead?
When in doubt, Youtube. Penumbra is interesting from what I've seen. Gabriel Knight I couldn't tell you. Miasmata is..... interesting. It's a survival game, you have an unknown and mysterious disease, curable by items somewhere on an island. At the same time there's a beast hunting you somewhere out there, and the story is all told through journals. If it weren't for the whole demon beast thing I'd actually buy and play it pretty quickly simply because I have a love of random exploration in videogames.
Probably the best recommendation I can give Miasmata is to say that it's unlike any other game I've ever played. Yes, there's things like maintaining a watch on your thirst level that you'll find in some other games; and yes, other games have a predatory creature stalking you (although I will say that I believe Miasmata's has some of the most impressive A.I. for one); and, yes, the game has its share of problems; but, taking the game as a whole, I can't think of anything to compare it to, which is, as I said, a big recommendation for me. But, as the guy above said, check out YouTube to gather your own impressions of whether or not it's something you'd enjoy.

I wouldn't even have considered it without an enemy. I my opinion there has to be a threat, so you don't take it all too easy.

Well, having played it, I think they could have also made a great game without because your character is also very frail in his condition and sometimes slipping down the side of a hill can be the greater risk than the creature itself.

I have watched some videos on youtube but still i cannot tell if it is something i'd like. but the idea of being alone on an island with you only company there being a "something" that wants you dead.

Well, yeah, like QC said, it's an interesting game. Curable items are plants, believe it or not - you have to collect them and then synthesise them after inspection at various outposts. Oh, and the game also has a great mapping system. You have to uncover portions of the map either by finding ones already drawn at some of the outposts or, more often, by triangulating your position. I'd especially look that up on YouTube, if you can. Although I really liked it, it's not for everyone, especially those who don't have the patience for such a thing.

Yeah saw that, have to look for effects of the plants in a book and make yor own medicine! that is cool I think but nearly made my brain explode. All those plants and their effects and the fac that you don't have something like a backpack... I also saw that guy falling from 2 metres of height and instantly being unconscious. That makes the protagonist kind of "wimpy".

Well, he's human. He's no body builder, he's a researcher, a scientist, one that's dying of a disease with no known cure. It's not really plausible to say that he's launching himself off cliffs and strangling forest animals bare handed.

Well, you have a journal that collects everything you need, so it's not difficult to follow, if that's what you're worried about.

Yeah, it can be a little silly from time to time, and your character can even feel like he's on roller skates whenever you pick up speed but I got used to it fairly quickly. Plus, what happens when you do fall unconscious or get hurt is that your plague develops a fever, and if you don't craft medicine in time the screen will fade darker and darker until you die, which can be really tense if you also happen to be completely lost at the time, which I was on a few occasions.

is it difficult to fins the journals in order? it is open world isn't it? I always tend to run as far as i can, get lost and sick, panic and die in that sort of survival games.

If that's your take, then no, Miasmata is most likely not for you. It's a game about exploration, first and foremost. Survival aspect is quite strong and ever present, but it's designed to never hinder the exploration.

... and you need fairly solid orientation skills to play the game, as a big part of it is mapping the island.

Edit: Now don't get me wrong, I love Miasmata and wish it made as much money as possible so these guys can continue making games. But I really don't think you'll enjoy it all that much based on what you've said.

Okay.. Miasmata wasn't on my radar but after reading this conversation?

"ping!"

It is now.

Hm, that kind of depends on the player, really. Personally, I found things in what I believe was the developer's intended way at first, but I did get lost on other occasions. But, honestly, there isn't really an order to things either. Since everything you find gets collected in your journal, it's always easy to look at that to understand the story, if that's what you're worried about.

It is open world but, as I said, it has a rather unique mapping system that can make going off a man built path that you find a pretty bad decision. Don't get me wrong, when I've gotten lost, I've often discovered something new - in fact, it's how I found an ingredient for the cure on a second, tropical-like island - but I've also been completely and utterly baffled as to my location at times as well, just because of how mapping works. It's not something that's bad though; quite the opposite really, as it adds a level of tension to the experience. I mean, unless there was another way I didn't know of, the tropical island I mentioned has to be approached with blind eyes, which can be kind of worrying at first, but you should easily find a map guiding you to some ingredients that someone had left behind.

Nah it's not that bad. I actually like exploring. I can develop some patience and love biology. so i don't think it will be that hard to get into the game. It's just my orientation. Maps are something i need plenty of time for. but if the world is diverse and has a wildlife, i would actually love it i guess.

I think i'll just buy it. That would be the best way to find out whether i like it or not. Did the same with System shock 2 and Divine divinity, now im in love with those games. And if there is money left, i could do a giveaway or something don't know yet. maybe i'm too egoistical for that we'll see.
