omega64: In those games you're playing the camera controlling the character. It's still first person. :P
In many RTS you are supposed to be the commander looking at a map where the troops are displayed fighting. It's still first person...?

Yes, the commander just has a digital overlay so you're seeing what he sees. :P

If it's a god game.
I really don't understand why GOG doesn't use "FPS" for First Person Shooter games. And plus they mix space shooters with FPS games with the "Shooter" category. So how is a game like related to [url=http://www.gog.com/game/one_unit_whole_blood]Blood?

God sees it all! Our inferior brains need something called "interface" to zoom and switch height, but god actually is supposed to see it all simultaneously. Not sure if that entirely qualifies as F̶u̶n̶n̶y̶ ̶P̶o̶u̶n̶c̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶P̶e̶n̶g̶u̶i̶n̶ First Person Perspective.

How is a game like Torchlight related to Planescape: torment?

Genres are broad. Very, very broad.

Fever_Discordia: LOL Now I'm trying to imagine what 'Forth (or even Fifth) Person Perspective' could possibly mean - I think maybe it can only be a thing in games set in a space with more physical dimensions than the usual 3!
First-person has nothing to do with dimensions, but everything to do with viewpoint, and is used not only visually, but in text as well. The English language only defines first-, second-, and third-person perspectives - defining "the one doing an action", "the one having said action done to them", and "the one watching/hearing/feeling/otherwise-being-aware-of the first doing the action to the second". A "fourth" person perspective, if defined, would most likely not be aware of the action being done at all, and is as such is not possible if the action is being described as happening. If the action is being described in any way, the reader/player/watcher/dreamer is aware of it, and is thus put into first, second, or third person (depending on how it's being described or displayed).

Maighstir: Although, there are shooters that are not first-person...

No, first-person perspective is when you're looking from the characters eyes (or, more often, the camera is placed at chest height). A shooter could just as well have a top-down or behind-and-above camera (both being different kinds of third-person perspectives, because you're watching your character shoot something/one else).

Zeroth-person perspective? Seeing the action done through all of the person doing the action, the one having the action done to them, and through the one standing aside and simply watching, at the same time?

If you're watching your own character (that you control, not suddenly mind-controlled by another player or AI) shooting at the camera's location (the camera being attached to another character - AI or other player matters little), then the game would have second-person perspective, and would be incredibly weird to play.

Also, simple way to filter out FPS games - filter by genre: shooter, then search for fpp, now you have shooters with first-person perspective, ie. first person shooters.

I didn't make it, someone did it for me.

That also applies to the pic.

Maan a SPS would be really murder-porny wouldn't it? Going around around killing people though your victim's eyes!
I think there was a film like that once - was it 'Strange Days'?

Maybe it's a second time dimension you need for forth person perspective then - the perspective of someone becoming aware of the events as they happen in reverse from their perspective or from some strange time equivalent of the imaginary plane - iTime!

At the danger of sounding like Captain Obvious, FPP as a category has never made much sense to me. It's too broad of a feature. Games like Albion and Dungeon Keeper have FPP modes, in Albion the game switches to FPP when you're indoors and in Dungeon Keeper you switch to FPP when you take direct control of a minion. There's many games like that and they're all so completely different from each other. I mean, could be anything from looking into a periscope in Silent Service to finding items in a Hidden Object adventure game.
